it guys thank you let's Go Round The
Hobby verse and catch up on this week's
hobby
news and find
out all right folks I think the probably
the headlining story for this week is
Fanatics is cancelling their Orlando Big
Show that they had planned uh citing the
Hurricanes yet we do know in the same
very Convention Center
uh the week before that was scheduled uh
an event uh took place uh 30,000 people
attended that event that went off
without a hitch the underlying Whispers
is that vendors did not flock buying
tables to sell out the event so it's
more financial I'd appreciate it uh you
know we talked about this on hobby
hotline uh a few days ago it'd be more
refreshing for fanatic sort of to be
honest to why these cancellations are
occurring they cancelled Pittsburgh and
that wasn't hurricanes in Pittsburgh so
maybe trouble getting you know vendors
to buy all the tables and sell out the
event Financial stuff and I just think
they're trying to to go too big too fast
and I think they're finding out uh that
that's not how uh the hobby always works
so uh off the heels of Pitts
cancellation now Fanatics Orlando show
uh is cancelled uh rumors are that it is
being moved to the first quarter of
2025 uh Panini has signed an exclusive
deal talk about timing with uh Detroit
Lions uh Superstar Defender Aiden
Hutchinson it's an exclusive autograph
deal obviously this deal was in the
works and happening before for the
season ending gruesome injury uh to
Aiden's uh leg we wish him a speedy and
healthy recovery and he should be back
uh in 2025 maybe even potentially for a
postseason run uh for the Lions but uh
you know can't blame Panini is a great
young uh sack artist uh in the NFL and
re again there's got to be life for
Panini after their license expires and
they're doing you know whatever they can
to to scratch and Claw so uh kudos to
them uh GameStop and PSA have a new
partnership you can drop off your cards
at GameStop
$19.99 uh per card
$4.99 uh shipping uh cards valued $500
or less it's a
45 uh day turn around um they do have
higher service levels available for
different price
there there's no minimum and says no
paperwork so I I guess GameStop's going
to do all the paperwork for you although
if I'm dropping my cards off for PSA
submission at GameStop I want something
on paper that says that I brought these
cards and what they were uh there that
kind of makes me uh a little nervous uh
I would be just nervous giving someone
who knows about the Legend of Zelda my
cards and maybe not what a Ricky
Henderson rookie is but to each their
own it's a partnership I'm sure they'll
work out some of the Kinks I don't know
long term if this is going to uh last I
don't know if I mentioned it but uh 45
day turnaround so you should have your
cards back in 45 days uh but uh we've
heard that before too so I I don't know
if that I don't think that's uh
guaranteed and we'll finish with another
big story
you might remember The Wil Chamberlain
rookie graded an SGC 10 uh through SGC
that went for $1.7 million in a private
golden sale well the buyer of that
card attempted to cross it over to
PSA and it did that and it got a PSA
10 uh as well so that SGC 10 will is now
a PSA 10 wi same card uh crossed over
you know I heard some people saying the
you know the risk involved in doing that
um he didn't crack it out right you can
for those that don't know you can sub a
card in its holder with the with the
caveat that if it's not going to get the
grade you want that it stays in that
holder so if PSA determined that they
weren't going to give it a 10 it would
have remained an SGC 10 um they deemed
it would be a 10 according to their
scale know they cracked it out and it
has a new holder um you know uh I guess
to each their own right he wanted it he
or she wanted it in a PSA holder so now
their wish came and now our Feature
[Music]
Presentation all right the subject we
are tackling today is Saturday card
shows versus Sunday card shows and I
know there are card shows that are both
days of a weekend let's say so this
really doesn't come into play but I'm
talking one day shows and I do both
Saturday card shows and Sunday card
shows I used to do a lot more two-day
shows I really don't do that anymore now
I've done a Saturday and a Sunday in the
same weekend but in different location
the show on Saturday's one place the
show is on Sunday another place and what
I found through you know did my first
show in
1987 uh which is 37 years ago that's
crazy where does the time go and so I've
I've noticed over those years and it's
not a recent discovery but maybe maybe a
little bit more noticeable in the last 3
to five years but you know I'm not
saying I don't have good Sunday shows I
do um but what I've notice is my SAT
when I do a Saturday show there's sort
of a different vibe and and I've had
some really outstanding Saturday shows
on the financial side of and no it's not
all about the Benjamins contrary to rap
songs but yeah if you're a dealer right
you want to do well and then I just
thought to myself why is Saturday shows
seem to be better or more fruitful when
compared to Sunday again this is not I
don't do well on Sundays and I just do
well on Saturdays I usually do well on
both days but Saturday shows you know
and tracking you know I keep track of
sales and uh for tax purposes and
Saturday shows just Trend better in that
side of the column so why is that right
it's easy to say it but where does the
evidence come in how do the facts bear
that out why is that the case and you
know I have one of the the shows I do
I've tried to convince the promoter to
really go to a Saturday show uh and uh
you know it's a traditionally Sunday
show and been a little bit resistant if
you will and I get it and it's his baby
right I you know I can do what he wants
I have a choice right not set up or stop
setting up but I do well on Sundays too
I just think it would be an even better
show on a Saturday so so why you know
it's easy for me to to get up on my soap
box and say Saturday shows are better at
least here in the central New York and
New York area but why and it may be like
that and other places too but why for
for my argument why is that the case and
I think the number one reason is NFL
football right you know we hear baseball
is America's pastime football is the
number one sport and I say football
American football the NFL is the number
one sport uh in the United States the
ratings of TV bear that out fantasy
leagues and betting also bear that out
as additional evidence and I can tell
you when I do a Sunday show and during
football season 12:30 one o'clock that
Convention Center that building where
the show's being held really really
empties out significant significantly
and even in some of my best Sunday shows
probably 80 90% of my sales have become
were were obtained before 100 p.m. time
uh here on East Coast uh as football
starts and people leave and head home to
watch their favorite team or just watch
football right football is a sport
people just don't even have to watch
their favorite teams it's one of those
kind of sports where like I'm a Steeler
fan but I can watch two other teams that
are not the Steelers play football I
love football enough uh to do it and
when I'm not at a Sunday show I'm more
I'm nine times out of 10 home watching
football whether that's the Steelers or
two other team uh play but why else on
satday it can't be just one thing right
it's got to be a combination
of a multiple of things and so I wrote
down a list of why I think that is I
just gave you I think what the what's
the number one reason especially during
football but I think for a lot of us we
spend more money on a Saturday why I
don't know is it psychological but
Saturday is kind of like you worked all
week it's you you know if you don't work
weekends it's your first day off after
hopefully not a too tough of a work week
but you're kind of unwinding you're glad
that a day off you're a little bit more
I don't want to say if loose is the
right term but a little bit more free
with your disposable income right I
think on a Saturday and I can tell you
that personally I feel that way right
you sort of treating yourself I worked
hard this week it's Saturday right uh
it's been in songs about Saturday's a a
fun day right and I think Sunday is you
know become obviously church for many is
on a Sunday morning it's time to start
winding down getting ready for the work
week again you know food prep making
lunches lawn work uh Again Church you
know to-do list honeydew list um
Sunday's kind of the you know uh believe
in that it's kind of the day of rest as
well to get ready for you know another
work week if you're a Monday through
Friday guy like myself and so I think
Sunday's viewed as sort of a Down quiet
day to get ready for the upcoming work
week I think it's it's also viewed as a
family day you know hey you know we're
not going to do a lot it's Sunday uh
time to uh you know unwind at home or
get things done uh at home and I see the
difference when I do a Saturday show and
I do a Sunday show you see the
difference and The Vibes different even
with people it's it's hard to sometimes
explain that's what it is it's sort of a
A vibe it's you can't put your finger
exactly on it but it's just a a feeling
you can get right and you know another
reason Saturday like I think married
couples and again I'm not wanting to
paint again I know I use this line all
the time with a broad brush but I think
a lot of times card shows for for
couples can be a negotiation right hey
honey I'm going to go to the card show
on Saturday but Sunday I'm going to be
home all day whatever we need to do
around the house we got to go grocery
shopping the kids got this um I'm yours
for the day give you know couple couple
hours Saturday for the show for me and
Sunday we'll get ready get things done
and button things up uh for the week and
I've had that's not I'm not making that
up I've had conversations where people
have told me that that that's either a
negotiation or just an agreement or
sometimes it's an Unwritten thing or an
unsaid thing it's just the way uh it is
but I think Saturday in our mindset too
as collectors as consumers that's kind
of the day I think if you look up the
stats and I'm sure there's some some
analytical data out there I think you'll
see there's more money being spent on
Saturday economically you know in the
macro world then the Sunday I think
Sunday we're just kind of butting
everything up and kind of clamping down
and getting ready uh for the work and
you know I'm not going to lie I get more
I I love doing card shows as a dealer
whether it's Saturday or Sunday I still
get excited I still look forward to it
yes it's a grind um but not a grind to
the point where I don't want to do it uh
anymore but there's work involved right
uh and um I've done some things in the
past few years to make the grind less of
a grind I've I've paired down uh how I
bring stuff in or what the stuff is in
and make less trips in and out of the
show to set up and and tear down I used
to do all my stuff in alphabetical order
I've uh ditched that in terms of to to
pack up and unload uh quicker uh my
process is very fast you know I used to
joke on this show that I was the last
guy out of the show uh no matter where
the show was or or or what day it was
that's no longer the case I'm not the
first one out uh yet either but I'm
somewhere I think in the middle which
was never going to be the case with the
way I used before to the point I've said
this my son who used to help me out stop
helping me out because it would take me
too long I was very OCD and methodical
uh packing up everything had to be the
players had to be an Al B of order and
he just wanted to go and and you know
throw the stuff in the Box pops let's
get out of here and also even the way I
present my cards they're already a lot
of before I had to put them in a
different display and then put now I
sort of already have them in what
they're going to be in so it's a matter
of just putting down tablecloths and
getting it out um but going back I I
went off on a little tangent there I
still get amped and and and excited for
Saturday and Sunday show but I'd be
lying if I told you that I didn't get a
little more amped up for a Saturday show
because I know as crazy as it might
sound I know the vibe's going to be
different number one I know people are
going to be a little bit less tight
fisted with their dollars if that makes
any sense and I also know yes there's
college football I get that but the NFL
is King we all know that and so Saturday
you know if the show's to 4:00 there's
going to be people there 300 3:30
there's going to be later sales than
traditionally on a Sunday and I'm not
saying I'd never make a sale at 3:00 or
3:30 but I will tell you this I make
them a lot more Saturday at that time
slot went during you know again # during
football Seas right but even not during
football season Sunday's just got a
different for a lot of the reasons uh AF
for mentioned that I already talked so
if I can only do one day show in the
choice is Saturday or Sunday it's a
layup for me to be a
Saturday all right thank you for
