SPEAKER 2: Hey, folks. Welcome to episode 174 of hobby. Quick hits. Full disclosure. This episode, the main body has was recorded, some weeks, so probably 4 to 5 weeks back, if not longer, but other episodes kind of topics kind of pushed this to the back burner and it's an upper deck box battle between SP game used and the Canada World Juniors featuring Connor Bedard.

SPEAKER 8: Let's go round the hobby verse and catch up on this week's hobby news.

SPEAKER 2: All right, by now, most of you have heard that collectors, the parent company of PS A has acquired SGC grading, someone who sponsors Sports Car Nation Podcast. I'm a bulk subber for, I've had conversations with people internally with SGC. They are going to run as business as usual, as a company under the umbrella of collectors.

SPEAKER 2: Obviously, that is the status for the moment. We'll see here as things, go on and, and play out, you know, what, if anything, will change, whether it be grading scale or something else.

SPEAKER 2: A lot of times as we, as most know, in mergers and acquisitions, it's, you know, potentially not until year two or three into the transaction. Do you see any major movements or changes? So, I don't think we're gonna see anything, for now and again, I've, I've talked to people inside that building and that's, that's, you know, coming from there as well.

SPEAKER 2: Caitlin Clark continues to take the sports world by storm. I was gonna say women's basketball, but just the sports world in general now she will became the all time points leader. Now she's the all-time three point maker leader and Panini has ex signed her to an exclusive card and autograph deal.

SPEAKER 2: It's multi year no terms disclosed. But for Panini, this is this is a huge get. So congrats to them. Speaking of congrats, congratulations to Dick Perez who is Sabers 2024 Jefferson Burdick Award winner. He'll be honored for them at a ceremony soon and he'll be at the National as will I and just a little tease.

SPEAKER 2: We're working on something for that event with Sports Car Nation as as well the WEM B prisons black, one of one pulled in Beijing, China Beijing breaks is now here in the States and has been graded by PS A. It did get a GEM 10 designation. So that becomes what it already was, but it becomes an even more valuable card.

SPEAKER 2: No, no indication of the owner of what they plan to do. But something tells me you'll be seeing that at one of the big auction houses sooner rather than later. And that's just a guess. I don't have any insider knowledge there, but, we'll see how that turns out and if that's the case, it'll be interesting to see what that brings, via, that auction.

SPEAKER 2: So, stay tuned one more quick news bite here if you will. Upper. Next series two hockey is now live and, released and, contains, Connor Bedard's Young Gun bringing pretty good, money and a lot of Social Media coverage.

SPEAKER 2: There's also, it also appears in other inserts such as, Dazzlers and, and other things, of the, of the like. So gonna be interesting to see who pulls what and, what some of these numbered low numbered colors and parallels, bring. So if you're on the hunt for Connor Bedard upper deck series too is out for your enjoyment.

SPEAKER 9: And now our feature presentation, our feature presentation.

SPEAKER 2: All right, it's time for another upper deck hockey box battle today. The combatants are the 2023 team Canada Juniors Box, which will be squaring up with the 2022 23 upper deck SP game used hockey. Let's head to the ring.

SPEAKER 2: All right, fighting out of the red corner is a 2023 team Canada Junior's Hobby Box weighing in at around an average price of 100 $91 a box. There's 15 packs in each box. Six cards a pack for a total of 90 cards. Let's talk about what you can pull out of this product. It is 100 50 card set, but cards 101 to 150 are only one in four packs.

SPEAKER 2: So those are short prints. Yes, Connor Bedard is in this product. It features men and women's hockey players for the junior Canada team. Here are some of the inserts. Red foils are one per pack rose gold foils, one per two, pattern foil board, one in five packs, red pattern foil boards. One in 15 clear cuts are one in 40.

SPEAKER 2: We have exclusive number to 100 gold pattern foil boards. Number to 25 high glosses only numbered to 10 and finite number to one of one. Clear cuts on the program of excellent side are one in 80.

SPEAKER 2: We're gonna talk about that here, in, in a moment. Team, Canada affects cards one in 112 packs, prospectus, momentous, one in 10 packs. Go to the tops one in 28 and, license the ice one in 120.

SPEAKER 2: Red has 23 copies. There are autographs and relics one and 120 for the signatures for the Signatures Jersey Autos. They're number to 175 or 125.

SPEAKER 2: And All right, let's talk about what we pulled. Many of these will be given away as giveaways as always. Thank you to upper deck. So did very well with this box. Two Conor Bernards got a number eight base card and got the number 108 program of excellence, shorter print card and got it in clear cut form which is one in 80 pack. So that is a huge hit. Very pumped for that.

SPEAKER 2: So short print clear cut beard, got a high gloss number to 10 number one card, Thomas Millick, he's a goalie, got a team Canada FX card, which are one in 100 12 packs. So this box was tremendous. Got a Matthew wood there, one in 100 12 packs. That card is not number. Let's talk about the number cards. I got a Brendan Brendan Otman number to 549 Tanner Howe to 3 to 349.

SPEAKER 2: A Nolan Allen to 100 red.

SPEAKER 2: Also got a Reed Shafer number to 549. Got a red foil board, Laura Stacy and a prospect. Momentous Tyson Hines got a foil board. Jocelyn Lara, also foil board, Jack Matier and also foil board. Nick Lus got three game use cards featuring jerseys.

SPEAKER 2: The three game it's supposed to have four game use. But what because of the high gloss and the clear cut card, there was only three. I am not complaining. Obviously the three Jersey cards were Brianne Jenner Lucas Travis and Re Shafer. The Jenner was a red patch. Dragas Sevi was a white patch and Reed Shaffer was a black patch. Got the 15 red foils which are one per pack.

SPEAKER 2: So one, redo, I'm not gonna mention, every player, but, one per pack. So three Jersey cards got the high glass number to 10, a regular beard and a clear cut beard. So, far exceeded, the value, of the box. And I will say, for being not an NHL product and, and a junior product, the cards are very, very sharp looking.

SPEAKER 2: All right, let's go to the blue corner featuring featuring 2022 23 upper deck SP game use. Let's talk about what potentially is in that box and then we'll talk about what I actually pull. All right, weighs in at about 100 $62. A box, it is a heavy rookie product. It is a 230 card, base set featuring veterans, legends and rookies. You're only going to get, six cards per pack, one pack.

SPEAKER 2: So we have base cards will be could be numbered to the Jersey number.

SPEAKER 2: Also red to 200 gold to 100 purple to five and green 101 legends can be numbered to their Jersey red, 200 gold, 100 purple to five and green 101. Rookies. Again, base number to the Jersey number, red can be numbered to 200 plus their age golds number to 100 plus draft year crystals to 25 purple to five green.

SPEAKER 2: One of one, the base cards can add autograph relics as well and they some of the inserts, rookie outbursts, one in 15 packs, autograph relics draft day marks number 235. They are the letters that can spell out. The player's last name.

SPEAKER 2: They are also limited mascot marks cards with signatures from the team mascots, ink sweaters, rookie ink, sweaters, retro renovation, autograph patches, checking in at 15 copies or less. They have banner year cards from the All Star game. You can also get super short print net cords or puck cards as well.

SPEAKER 2: Supreme, which are hard to pull patch cards numbered to 15 or less copies. So that's what's in there. Let's talk about what we got. All right, two rookie cards to number 29, 99 Jordan Harris of the Canadians and Lucas Reichel of the Blackhawks did get a Jersey auto card.

SPEAKER 2: Of Anthony Belville from the Islanders got a banner year game used or all-star used banner card of Joe Pavelski, not numbered two purity inserts which are kind of die cut inside the card. Not the card itself is not die cut, but there are four die cuts within the card itself which features rookie goalie from the senators. Mads.

SPEAKER 2: So Guard and Connor MCD, not bad there with the MCD and the big card out of the box or the big hit if you will is a super short print mascot. Mascot marks letter patch featuring the letter G from Thunder Bug. Thunder Bug is the Tampa Bay Lightning mascot. This is a super short print. It is numbered 11 of 35. So that was the big hit.

SPEAKER 2: So a little bit disappointing there as far as it's not a player, it's a mascot card, but it is a super super short print. It is a cool looking card featuring a black patch with a white gene again, number 2, 35 the auto Jersey is a six year veteran that was Bell Va from the Islanders and that's number 2149.

SPEAKER 2: So overall probably fell short value wise with that one. But the winner of this match up in a route is the Canada World Juniors Box and that more than made up for the SP game use with the Bear Bedard short parent clear cut card. So, that wins and overall, if you combine both boxes, value was, was ahead, of, of what the boxes retail for.

SPEAKER 2: So, there you go. That's the, box battle for this week again, as always. Thank you to upper deck. All right. Thank you for listening to another episode of Hobby Quick Hits.
