SPEAKER 1: What is up everybody? Welcome to episode 282.

SPEAKER 1: We are back with Ray Fonio from the Baseball Card Hall Of Fame. We're gonna go over this week, the 40 candidates up for induction 10 will get in 30 will not, they'll be on the outside looking in. We're gonna go through all 40 in a quick pace, but talk about them.

SPEAKER 1: I've submitted my vote. You probably, if you listen to last week's episode, you know, about four that I voted for out of the 10, but I'm not gonna give up any more info, vote yourself. I don't wanna, you know, influence your vote, vote from your heart and appreciate Ray kind of coming on and, and doing this busy with this endeavor.

SPEAKER 1: So this will conclude, you know, the coverage of the Baseball Card Hall Of Fame for this year, but look forward to doing it every year. Thanks to Ray for, for coming on. So with that being said, let's get the show started.

SPEAKER 2: For nearly 50 years. Sports collectors digest has been the voice of the hobby, bringing you comprehensive coverage of the sports collectible industry from industry news auction results, market analysis and in depth stories about collectors and their collections. Sports collectors digest has everything you need to know about the hobby.

SPEAKER 1: All right. So, we're gonna go, we're gonna go through all 40 candidates here. I'm, I'm not gonna put pictures up. People will know many of these cards and we'll see them, in their mind if they, you know, if they don't, you know, Google ebay, you can, you can find these cards, and what they look like.

SPEAKER 1: We're gonna go through each one right by all means. If you wanna comment on them, you know, a little bit, you know, first ballot. It's a returnee if you know any numbers and you want to share, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER 1: I'm gonna more acquiesce to you because this is, you know, you know, about where these cards, if they're returning, how they did in, in past years, how close they, they got or didn't get, and that sort of thing, we're gonna go by year order. So we're gonna go from oldest to, to, newest that way.

SPEAKER 1: There's no favoritism. Oh yeah. Imagine them first. They're trying to, tell us something there, John. So we'll go just from oldest to, to most current. We'll start off with the oldest 1, 1887 old judge Kid Nichols. This is, you know, an early, early days card.

SPEAKER 1: It's not the first card ever but, in that, in that area, old judge, you know, tops has kind of brought that line back at different times, and whatnot. So even people who maybe don't collect vintage or pre-war will be familiar with old judge, anything to add here with, with this card.

SPEAKER 3: No, I mean, not really. I mean, last year, an old judge cart actually did get in or, or I'm sorry, was on the ballot and it was King Kelly and a lot of people are very familiar with carts early 19 hundreds, but you don't see too many people, you know, or, or, or even knowing that there's cards in the 18 hundreds such as old.

SPEAKER 1: So no doubt next one on the list here, like I said, we're going by by year. So, oldest to newest, then T 206, Walter Johnson, T 206. There's a few T 206 on the ballot this year starting with Walter Johnson, you say T 206.

SPEAKER 1: That's probably one of the first vintage and pre-war sets, people think about, you know, even people who aren't into that error of the hobby are, you know, they know what T 206 is that, I think that's the iconic, that's the iconic system of that, that set to begin with. And, and so Walter Johnson, the portrait version is, is on the ballot.

SPEAKER 1: I'Ll pause after each car if you want to chime in, jump in. If not, we'll move on to the next one. So, all right, next 1, 1909, Philadelphia Caramel E 95. Another Onus Wagner card, right? Other than the T 206 on the ballot here, a another great card for those that, you know, are familiar with it.

SPEAKER 1: It's a batting pose, him, looking like he's looking at a coming in one of the all time great hitters in the sport. And it's a really cool card. I ii I don't own any of these so far. But, you know, and seeing that card, I'm like, man, I'd love to own, own that car.

SPEAKER 3: And that's the second year. Now, this card's been on the ballot, I thought last year, you know, everybody knows about the T to a Six Wagner, but I wanted to see if there's any other slightly more affordable Wagners, you know, too as well. And this was the next one in line. So second year on the ballot.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah. And, and you know, sometimes I think when we talk about honest Wagner, everyone think, you know, knows the story about the, the T 206 car where he didn't want to be depicted on it. Because of the, the tobacco affiliation, some got out and maybe you know, because there's so little of them, it, it added to the, the rarity and iconic system of the card.

SPEAKER 1: But people forget I waggers one of the greatest players in the game, forget the story about the card. Like that card would, they could, they could have not pulled the card and it still would have been like that just added added to it.

SPEAKER 1: And I think sometimes Wagner doesn't get a fair shoot. People forget about that in the hobby. They think it's, it's just the story. This guy is one of the greatest put on cleats. So, I wanted to throw that in there. Keep going here 1909. Ramly another Walter Johnson here portrait.

SPEAKER 1: It's funny if you see Walter Johnson portrait cards, he always, he always has like the same expression. Honestly, it almost looks like the same photo which tops does nowadays for a lot of players. But back then, you know, it was a different time period. But again, another iconic card got that, you know, design around the, the oval picture, there.

SPEAKER 3: This card's been on the ballot quite a few years now and it's gotten close. It hasn't cracked the top 10 but it hasn't gotten the bottom five neither. And hi, his cards hanging around, you think?

SPEAKER 1: I mean, just got feeling what, you know, you think this might be the year.

SPEAKER 3: I don't know. We'll see. I'm not a big fan of this particular car, but again, you don't have to be a fan of the car to acknowledge the, the rarity of it and the popularity, iconic value of a player in a car. So it's hanging around, it gets closer each year. So, you know, we'll see if this is his year.

SPEAKER 1: I'm gonna put the next two on my page together. They're both T 20 sixes. We've got Cy Young and Tris speaker.

SPEAKER 1: You know, Cy Young, if you don't know who Cy Young is, you're probably not a baseball fan because the, the best pitcher for each league is gets the Cy Young award and you know, trust speaker again, and one of those players that I don't think a lot of people are aware how, how great of a player he was. Again, this is the T 206 iconic set.

SPEAKER 1: And, and they become the, the third so far, the third T 206 on this year's ballot.

SPEAKER 1: I don't know if you wanna add and, and we can add another one. I see. The next one.

SPEAKER 3: Is, that's the next one is the big one.

SPEAKER 1: Sherry mcgee. The error. So, so yeah, go ahead.

SPEAKER 3: Big big card. The Sherry and this is the Sherry Maggie even though his name is mcgee. But the, we call this one the Sherry Maggie error card. This is the first real error card, not a Hall Of Fame player, but this card is, you know, when I was a kid back in the day, this was a Mount Rushmore.

SPEAKER 3: You know, I mean, you had to the Honus Wagner the 52 tops Mantle, the Eddie Plank and this was up there with and also Napoleon Lager Ways 33 gaudy. This was an a Mount Rushmore type of card 3040 years ago when I first started collecting and this is the first year on its ballot. People made suggestions to me on this. I'm like, you know, I can't believe I never put this on the ballot. This is a huge card.

SPEAKER 1: So this is one where you're saying kind of my bad. Like I, I.

SPEAKER 3: Slip through the cracks. A big error card of the misspelling and the I have the correct a card and that's very affordable. But this error card, forget it. It is. It's a comma card for sure.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, it'd be interesting. Like, like you said probably should have been on prior, but here it is making its debut. It'd be interesting to see what people think about it. Probably a lot of people maybe don't realize the significant. So that final vote total will be interesting to see where it comes in at as well.

SPEAKER 1: Night, next one on, on the list 1914. Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson, another iconic pitcher from, from w along with Walter Johnson, I love the Cracker Jack. That's one of my favorite brands from that day.

SPEAKER 1: You know, I mean, Cracker Jack is, is synonymous kind of with, with baseball, right in the song.

SPEAKER 1: Buy me some peanuts and, and Jack and here you got the, the sport that's you know, it, it's so aligned with and, and the brand and they, they're just a colorful, a colorful card and it's I have a few, I don't have this one but I do have a few and you know, anytime you can get one at a, at a, I always look at them and, and try to try to pick some up when possible.

SPEAKER 1: And this, you know, it's an inaction shot, right? And he just releasing, just releasing the ball and it's a.

SPEAKER 3: It's a side by side view type of car. It's not the traditional top and bottom. And it's, it's also, this is its first year on the ballot and it's, one of Christy Matthews's most valuable card. He has one in there already. The T 205 goal board. But I was wanted to give this card some love because everyone knows the T 205 and the T 206. But this is actually more rarer and more valuable than the other ones for Christy Matthewson.

SPEAKER 1: Yup. And, again, we'll, we'll see how it, how it fares. Moving on to the next 1, 1925 exhibit Lou Gehrig.

SPEAKER 1: You know, exhibit cards. I, I own quite a bit of them.

SPEAKER 1: And I, I, I'Ll, I'Ll self confess when I first got into the hobby and started, going, you know, like you, it was 1979 when I got a little bit older, I was seven at that time, but when I got a little bit older and started going back and buying cards and acquiring cards from before, you know, noncurrent, I, I didn't like exhibit cards when I, when I saw them, you know, a lot of them were blank back.

SPEAKER 1: They almost look like they would just cut out of cardboard. And over the years they've, they've grown on me. Ii, I have some in my PC, I have some, in my dealer inventory that I set up at shows with.

SPEAKER 1: So, I've kind of done a 180 Ray on how I, I feel, but I don't, I don't love them, love them, but at one point I went from, I don't really like these to like not accepting them to like now accepting them and, and having more of a fineness than ever before. So here we have the, the Lou Ge Lou Gehrig version of this from 1925 on the ballot. I don't know if you wanna add any. It's a.

SPEAKER 3: Lot of people consider this to be his rookie card.

SPEAKER 3: Yeah, he has a 33 gaudy in the Hall Of Fame already. But I did some research and looked to see, well, actually what is considered his rookie card and a lot of people say this is the one.

SPEAKER 1: Do you think I'Ll ask you, you know, you can't speak for everyone. You think that being an exhibit hurts its chances or, or not necessarily ii I.

SPEAKER 3: Can't speak for other people for me. I'm, I'm a lot of people are telling me they're not huge exhibit fans.

SPEAKER 3: The only thing that I think the reason why this is getting votes is this is considered his rookie card.

SPEAKER 3: So it's, it's, this is the second year I think now that it's on the ballot. So, yeah, I kind of do think, you know, like you said, it's, it's a, there's no back, you know, it's plain, it's like a postcard.

SPEAKER 3: And I think maybe people are having a little bit of a problem with this card. But the reason why it's hanging around is because, well, this is his rookie card. So, and it's the iconic Lou Garrick. So I do think, you know, eventually down the line it's gonna get in.

SPEAKER 3: But if it was AAA more traditional base card at that time, but in that time frame, in the, in the mid twenties, there really wasn't gaudy or play balls or Delong's, you know, it was mostly postcards like this or confectionery, you know, candy cards or cigarette. So we'll see what it does. I'm curious to see what it, when it, it should get in the Hall Of Fame, how long it will take?

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, I'm gonna just for the sake of time, I'm, I'm gonna probably start, I'Ll, I'Ll do like three at a time, right? And then you sure, whatever, whatever ones you wanna like add to it, I'Ll keep my comments brief as well. We got a, we got some 1933 gowdy again, another iconic brand of cards. Jimmie Foxx, Jimmy D Dizzy Dee and then we got 1934 Gowdy Hank Greenberg.

SPEAKER 1: Goodness, it's funny seeing the, the, the gouty Jimmie Foxx. I I'Ll just check that is on my list of one of the cards I'd like to get at the National coming up here in Cleveland. It's it's, you know, Jimmie Foxx. A legendary home run hitter. This card is probably should be worth, probably should bring more than it. It, it typically does.

SPEAKER 1: It's actually a fairly affordable card for, for an iconic player and an iconic brand, but maybe I'Ll, I'Ll own this card sometime in, in July. I'm kind of waiting. It's on, you know, I always go into the National with like a 3 to 5 card list of, of cards. I'd like to bring home, you know, I don't always get all of them. That's, that's the fun of it. But this is on that short list. Anything with these, three, Fox, Dean and.

SPEAKER 3: Now Dean and Greenberg are returnees. They've been on the ballot. Now, this is the first year for Fox and Fox has never been on the ballot before. So, and, you know, he does have a rookie car from the twenties, but this is the one car that a lot of people gravitate to is this 33 gallon.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah. Next three. Well, like I said, we'll, we'll start putting these in kind of threes.

SPEAKER 1: We got the 1941 play ball, Ted Williams, the 1949 Bowman Satchel page and the 1949 Bowman Roy Campanella, the, the thing that stands out and I, I'Ll give you a hint I voted for it.

SPEAKER 1: I was the, I'm not gonna say everything I voted for, but just, I will, in this case, the play ball Williams, I, I'm, I've, I kind of would when I saw that on this list and that the only card I thought that with, but when I saw it on this list, I kind of thought that isn't in already.

SPEAKER 3: And this is the first year this card's on the ballot.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah. So, II I will say this, I'm not politic and I, like I said, I, that you got one of my 10 votes. I'd be shocked if, if this didn't if this didn't get in, I think it's, it's a highly regarded card. It's a great card, a closer face up face.

SPEAKER 1: You know, I'm a, I have a thing for like close face up in, in cards. And so this card checks that box as well for me. We'll go to the next 3, 1949 leaf Warren Spand, 1950 Tateo, Josh Gibson in 1952 tops Indy Pasco.

SPEAKER 1: No, that's the number one card in the 52 set. I actually own a, a very low grade copy of that card, but it's, you know, it's a Brooklyn Dodger. I, I'm from Brooklyn and very hard to find in great condition because as, as we know with the people, rubber band in the cards, that thing took the rubber band right across the middle.

SPEAKER 1: And, and it's an iconic card. I, I voted for it. I don't, you know, that one, if I'm guilty of voting for a card that maybe, probably shouldn't have got one of my 10 votes. I, I'm gonna say, well, the path go, I voted for the Gibson as well.

SPEAKER 1: So now people know three of them, I'm not, they won't know all 10, but I've given away three that Gibson is, he's probably the best player ever to play major league baseball and that's not his fault. And and this card is, is very hard to find and, and iconic in its own, right?

SPEAKER 1: I know it's not a, a US brand, but I, I don't think, you know, that's not a criteria that you have to be a US brand and this card is, is on a lot of people's hit list or, or want to own someday list. So, that's I voted for the Gibson is definitely worthy the path go. That was a sentimental pick by me. Any, anything you wanna throw in with, with now.

SPEAKER 3: You've hit it, you hit it right on the nail. Pretty self-explanatory. Pafko number one to Laos Gibson. That's the closest to a playing base card you could find to him and Spas never been on the ballot before and that's his rookie.

SPEAKER 1: Yep. Yep, no doubt. And, and Warren by one of the best best pitchers to, to do it.

SPEAKER 4: Time for a quick break, but we'll be right back.

SPEAKER 4: Sports Car Nation has returned.

SPEAKER 1: Go to the next three, start off with it again. All these cards are iconic but the 53 Bowman color Mickey Mantle, the 54 Wilson Franks, Ted Williams 57 tops. Brooke Ro Brooks Robinson. Again for those that like me who love, you know, clo close face ups of the player especially in rookie cards. Brooks Robinson, 57 tops. Check that box, any anything on these, you wanna.

SPEAKER 3: Now again, three great cards, Mickey Mantle. This, he's already has four in there. The Wilson Franks, Ted Williams last year was just on the outside of the top 10 looking in and Brooks Robinson rookie card of one of the great third baseman.

SPEAKER 3: He's done very well in this ballot too.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, maybe this is the year that card gets in. Ray. I I know he recently passed away and not that that's a reason like that card shouldn't, isn't any more iconic because he, he, he passed away. But you know how people, you know how my work.

SPEAKER 3: Yeah, it goes hand in hand sometimes.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, I think sometimes when we, when we hear about player passing away, we start, we, we look, we kind of look back and, and maybe that's the sort of igniter to get this card in on this year's ballot. Next 3, 58 tops. Roger Marris, 59 men Satura Sadaharu.

SPEAKER 1: Oh, and 65 tops Car on they all you know, he's the babe Ruth of, of Japan. But he's also known here in the States. Roger Marris is, is Roger Marris Carlton again when we talk about a for, you know, very affordable rookie card of great lefty pitcher. I, you know, the is I wanted to kind of ask you about the, oh, has this been on the ballot before? I don't remember seeing it. So that's why I asked.

SPEAKER 3: No, what got me thinking about adding. This is when I added the toll of Terra Josh Gibson.

SPEAKER 3: I, I looked for another foreign card of a foreign player and he's probably the most famous foreign player of all time in the history of the game, all time home run king.

SPEAKER 3: And this is his rookie card and it's, it really got me thinking like, yeah, I think Sadaharu deserves to be on this ballot as well. He's a great player. Carlton's never been on the ballot. This is his first year and this is Sadaharu Os first year.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, I, if, if the old, if sad or how doesn't get in, I, it may not be because it's not worthy, it may be just because maybe some people don't realize the significance even, even to the American game. And, you know, so, well, it'll be interesting to see how, where that call card falls in, in the voting when, when all those, the smoke clears and the, and the dust settles.

SPEAKER 1: Next three cards, Ray, we got 1967 tops. Tom Seaver, 68 tops Tom Seaver and the famous 68 tops 3d Roberto Clemente. I will give her away another vote of, of mine being a Mets guy. I did not. But I will tell you this. I didn't vote for the 68 Seaver. I voted for the, the Seaver rookie.

SPEAKER 1: And then that's another card on my list to, to pick up at the National was on my list last year and it just did not not, I could not get one. They were, you know, I get it. It's the National people got bills but man, people were somebody asking prices last year were a little bit more than I thought. You know, you know, I don't want to bring, make this about cops, but they're a little bit over cops as the kids say.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, and so I'm hoping this year, maybe it's the year I get to bring one home. Finally. I really, it's one of those cards I should have had already being a Mets guy.

SPEAKER 1: But I just kind of kicked the can, I always kind of thought I, I'Ll get it whenever and I waited too long. Right. And then he, he recently passed away in the last couple of years. And so, you know, what typically happens when someone passes away, their cards usually get a bump in price usually initially sometimes and then sometimes we'll, we'll even stay, at those levels.

SPEAKER 1: Seaver is one of those cards at, at the moment. Although with things sort of settling down, maybe, I get to, to bring one home this year because so there's four cards. I, I kind of let the kid out of the big but, anything they had on, on the street, the Clemente is just, the Clemente.

SPEAKER 3: Yeah, that's a big card. It's probably his most valuable. And people are like, what? Over the rookie? Well, it's a rare card and it's 3d. So it's prone to cracking and condition. So that's, it's a very, very expensive card. And that's so, I think this is his third or fourth year on the ballot, but it's getting close.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, maybe this is the, the year.

SPEAKER 1: All right. Go. Let's go to the next 3, 1975 tops Robin. You kind of talked about that. A little bit in the front part of the, of the show.

SPEAKER 1: 1980 I'm glad to see this card. Right. The 1980 Charlotte s the orange version of the cal ripping. This is a minor league issued card, but it's a baseball card, right? So I say, well, you're putting my, this is the classic card and if you're a Cal Ripken collector or super collector, this is probably the grail card for all of those.

SPEAKER 1: Folks. This is very hard to find, not necessarily affordable. And there is a blue version if I'm not mistaken. And this is the, the tougher of, of the two and then the third one is the 83 Opg Tony Gwyn. Anything to add here and.

SPEAKER 3: You hit it right on the nose.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah. Ok.

SPEAKER 1: All right. So next three, this is a set. I used to own and I think I, I love the set. I don't have anymore. I, I toy would always like getting another one but I haven't done it. 84 flare update. We have the Clemens, the 86 tops, traded Tiffany Barry Bonds in the 87 Don Earth Greg Maddux, rated rookie.

SPEAKER 1: You know, all, all iconic cards in their own right now. We're getting more into the modern day, but we'll see they're going up against some formidable in pre war. So I don't know. You know, I don't know how that's gonna be the, the, you know, it might be any outside looking in. But, you know, you never know.

SPEAKER 1: This was, this was an error too. 8687 Ray. I, I, I'm preaching to the choir. Here was when a lot of people really got into the hobby. So, the, these may hit sentimental nerves and sentimental feelings and these might get more votes than, than you realize or think I think they should.

SPEAKER 3: Yeah, I agree.

SPEAKER 1: So it'll be interesting to see. All right, next 3, 1990 leaf Frank Thomas, that thing propelled the leaf brand. People were between that and the Griffey. The difference is that, you know, Griffey already had the 89 rookies releases. This was, Frank Thomas's rookie card on a premium brand for that, that era.

SPEAKER 1: 1990 leaf people were, were, were, you know, I had monster boxes of leaf comments from how much I, I opened up and, and search and this was obviously the big chase card out of that set. 1990 upper deck auto, Reggie Jackson, one of the early, autograph cards to appear, in packs.

SPEAKER 1: So that created a buzz on its own. And the 1991 tops Desert Shield, Chipper Jones, rookie. Most people know, Desert Shield cards designed for the troops, serving in the Gulf War. Many made it back here as they brought them back and they became a, a highly sought out s after collectible people getting their favorite teams and players with that Desert Shield logo.

SPEAKER 1: Be careful there are fake Desert Shield cards. That's how popular they are. So these three are, are iconic cards again, falling into that late eighties, early nineties era where, you know, we'll see how people vote anything that they add here.

SPEAKER 3: No, I the, the Jackson is actually a returnee card. This was a card that got bumped off on the bottom five and I put it back on because it was the first chase card, the first autograph chase card ever pulled out a pack.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, and, and, and that's, you know, that's, to me that's in a way where I, you know, I'm not saying what I voted for it or didn't. But you know, that's an interesting dynamic that, you know, you know what I said, you know, where we, where, where, where we are today because of cards in the past.

SPEAKER 1: This is a perfect example of that. We all know what a chase card is or the card everyone's trying to get. This one was one of the first to, to introduce autographs out of pack when that was sort of uncharted territory. Now, it's, now it's no big deal. Now we just argue about on card autos versus sticker sticker, right?

SPEAKER 3: This, you could say you could say this started the autograph card craze was this card?

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, so I, I got a feeling I know you, you said you put it back on, this might get a little more love this year than I think so prior. So it be interesting to kind of see where, where it goes. All right.

SPEAKER 1: Last three on the ballot, not, not, not said by voting, but obviously going in in your order as, as I said, I was gonna do the 1991 upper deck, Michael Jordan sp one even to this day.

SPEAKER 1: You know, when I do shows this card is very popular, people will sometimes ask for it or ask if I have, have any when Mike, you know, you know, in, in the batting cage in his white sox gear the 1992 Bowman Mariano Rivera rookie in pedestrian clothes outside the stadium, right?

SPEAKER 1: Just iconic for, for that shot arguably the greatest closer in the history of the game and an iconic card and the, the Ichiro po ho Yeah, I'm, I'm a big fan of this card.

SPEAKER 1: I do, I do have a couple and it's one of those cards I always try to get more of, it's, it's like even though I have it, I'm like, I don't have a problem owning duplicates of of the, the chrome traded, you know, and, and you got, they're gonna both be in the Hall Of Fame here in the next few in the real, you know, the Baseball Hall Of Fame here in the next few years.

SPEAKER 1: So, and they're both, they're both gonna be first ballot as players.

SPEAKER 3: There's not too many cards that have multiple players, there's only the trammel monitor that I know of and this is definitely gonna be another one.

SPEAKER 1: And, and no disrespect to Tram or monitor both both you know, Major League Hall Of Famers but Paul Hols and, and you know, it are are, you know, at least t I don't wanna say but name wise they, they move the meter a little bit more than, than, and maybe that's not even fair to Tamo Mo.

SPEAKER 1: I think that maybe goes the testament to how underrated they are you know that they're not probably looked about and maybe more higher regard than they are but you know IO and, and four holes. And you know, you look at what I did and, and he had already played in Japan for many years before he came over here.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, and so, and he still put up Hall Of Fame Worthy numbers minus those, minus those seven years. It's one of my favorite cards.

SPEAKER 1: And so you got this, the Rivera and, and the what was the other one that I, I mentioned Jordan.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, the Jordan, I don't think the Jordan gets in but, you know, that's just an iconic card and, and still has desire still here. We are 33 years later, Ray and that, that card is still, you know, it seems like I sell them as fast as I, I put them out.

SPEAKER 1: And you know, again a very affordable card unless you're looking for a PS A 10, then you're gonna have to get out your, your checkbook or your paypal account. But, but generally, you know, actually all three of these are, are fairly, affordable when we, when we.

SPEAKER 3: Look at, especially in like a nine a nine, it's a great grade. It's a high grade. I have.

SPEAKER 1: No, I, I don't kick nines out of bed. So.

SPEAKER 3: No, no, me neither. Nines are fine.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, because many of those nines you have would probably be tens if you, you know, we play that game. Not, I'm not saying I do but, yeah, it'll be interesting to see. That's the, that's the 40 rate.

SPEAKER 1: It'll be interesting to see some of the dynamic with some, you know, the newer cards if you will from the, the, the eighties and nineties and, and, and, you know, and the ihio, and pool holes to see how they go in there with some of those bigger boys, from the pre war. And, vintage.

SPEAKER 1: Er, and, well, you, you know, because you're gonna get, you know, you, again, the voting is open to everybody. So, it, it'll be interesting to see, you know, where these cards, fare, how close they get. Might, you know, it might tell us a little, we can maybe learn a little something about the hobby in the process that.

SPEAKER 3: For the, the whole premise. Yeah.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah. So anything, well, that's the 40 we're kind of, you know, anything you wanna add.

SPEAKER 3: No, just get out and vote. Have fun with this. Tell your friends, tell your other hobbyists out there to, you know, there's the 2024 7th annual Baseball Card Hall Of Fame out now, get out and vote for what, 10 cards you feel deserve to be in this year's Hall Of Fame.

SPEAKER 3: And, you know, hopefully, you know, I'Ll, it's gonna expand to other sports and hopefully this is gonna expand to, more virtual viewing, maybe a website or some sort, something like that where, I'm working on that. People can go in and view it as a gallery of all the cars that are already in there. So that's on the works too.

SPEAKER 1: That'll be, that'll be very cool. It's kinda like, you know, we go to the, the Real Hall Of Fame, right? To see the plaques, the b, that, you know, having it rather than just seeing a list you know that and you can go back and say, yeah, I voted for that. I didn't vote for that and, and create even more conversation even on past, past balance and, and, and, and whatnot. So re give out, the voting is till you got till May.

SPEAKER 3: 13th, May 13th. Monday, May 13th, 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. And then I'Ll come out with the induction video two days later on Wednesday, May 15th around the same time, 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

SPEAKER 1: But yeah, give out where, where do people go? How do people vote? Where do they go?

SPEAKER 3: Yeah, they can go to two YouTube channels, the Sports Car Hall Of Fame Network channel, the ballots there or they can go to Ray from Philly YouTube channel and the ballots there as well. Either one and just go there and watch the video and click on the link and you'll see the link where you select 10 players and you also see the spreadsheet of what cards have already gotten in.

SPEAKER 3: So all the information is there two channels.

SPEAKER 1: Awesome, man. You, you know, again, I say this every year kudos to you for creating this kudos. You know, sometimes you know, people create things and then they, they do them a couple of years and then you know, that's kind of the end and they figure out this thing is on it's, it's six year, seventh, year long.

SPEAKER 1: Yeah, you're gonna add to it as you, as you mentioned, adding a website component and, and it's gonna get bigger and better. Ii I think it's safe to say you'll get more votes this year than in, in, in past.

SPEAKER 1: And as the thing continues to gain momentum, I love to have you. Once the voting is all been decided, maybe, you know, mind will come back. We'll kind of talk about love it. The the voting who got in, who just missed and who who really missed badly and are gonna be taking a seat for at least a year.

SPEAKER 3: I would love that.

SPEAKER 1: And let's do, let's do a follow up pod and once the voting is in but go vote folks now so we can have that show after the voting is all set up, Ray as always man. Thanks for your time. Thanks for, for working. Thank you, John.

SPEAKER 1: Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. All right guys. That's gonna do it for this episode. Thanks to Ray Fonio Ray Ray from Philly Baseball Card Hall Of Fame. He does the Football Card Hall Of Fame as well. Go out there and vote, you know, the candidates. Now, this is something we hope to do each year for each sport. Kind of do the preview show.

SPEAKER 1: I know it's fun for me. Fun for Ray. I hope you enjoyed it as well. Also, what do you think of the new format, a little shorter, episodes, more kind of consumable, in one sitting, commute wise. Let us know. Yay. Nay. Anything else you like to see? We, we respond to feedback so, appreciate it to hear from you. If you so choose.
