all right real excited to have the next three gentlemen on this special edition
0:35
of sports coordination let me introduce them in no particular order we got Ray
0:41
from Philly Ray fonio uh and Scott Nathan uh welcome gentlemen
0:50
thanks for thanks for being on the show today so Ray I started you know uh
0:57
you're welcome you you started the baseball card Hall of Fame that was you
1:02
know you've done that a couple years it's it's gotten a lot of momentum uh I
1:08
know when I had you on the show just yourself you mentioned about you know uh branching out and doing some of these
1:14
other sports you know anytime you do one thing someone else can be like hey what about football basketball hockey you're
1:20
not Sports you know how it goes so you're doing the first uh inaugural uh
1:26
football card Hall of Fame uh you brought us and Bard in uh to kind of
1:31
head that up you got 45 cards on the list the top 10 vote Getters uh will be
1:39
the uh you know first inaugural uh card uh class of the football card Hall of
1:45
Fame I'm looking at this list of 45 guys it's gonna be hard the the Pick 10 I
1:51
mean the voters are obviously going to speak but uh whoever finishes 11th uh
1:56
you know you can make a case for obviously every card on this list there's not too many Scott Rowlands of
2:04
the card world uh this list if you will and uh So you you're going to be set up
2:10
for future classes as well we'll start with with you Ray just kind of talk
2:16
about you know uh how this got off the ground and then you know incorporating
2:21
Bart and and Scott to to get on board and and do this
2:28
yeah sure well about five six years ago I started the baseball card Hall of Fame
2:33
and for the first uh three elections I did it by myself and it was
2:40
just brutal was really rough and hard to do so I brought in two more fellow
2:45
YouTubers uh Victor the rookie card specialist and Mike this baseball card life so I have a committee for the
2:52
baseball card Hall of Fame and we've done that the last two years in a row and that's just taken off and gotten a
2:58
lot better um and we created a separate YouTube
3:03
channel called the sports card Hall of Fame Network so the baseball card Hall of Fame all of
3:09
the classes from the first five years are on the sports card Hall of Fame network uh there's going to be topics
3:15
every month going on there like features on cards from each class you know once a
3:21
month we try and keep up with that so then the three of us were talking and we had a lot of uh people coming back at us
3:27
saying you know we need to expand into other sports so we thought that was a great idea so
3:33
we're starting off now with Art Hall of Fame and this is the first inaugurable class
3:39
for that and it's the same rules apply which I'm going to have the two committee uh Commissioners explain all
3:47
that to you guys and we're really excited to just keep expanding this uh sports card Hall of Fame Network to all
3:54
the other sports so gradually yes before people ask they'll be basketball they'll be hockey and who knows after that you
4:02
know maybe Polo I don't know but we're really thrilled that we got in my
4:09
opinion two guys that really know football cards more than anyone on YouTube and uh it's been a joy so far to
4:16
uh watch this uh ballot grow in just a couple days it's been out and uh
4:21
I'm gonna be done talking now and I'm gonna introduce you know the two guys that are running it unless you want to
4:27
John uh but oh go ahead go ahead guys
4:37
so uh the two gentlemen I have running the football card Hall of Fame is Scott Nathan his channel asconi tradition
4:44
and the other channel is Bart from Bart's cards and I'm telling you I've been following these guys since they
4:50
first started and that's years ago and their football knowledge is better than
4:55
anyone's out there football cards and it fit perfectly it fit like a glove so uh
5:02
they're running the football card Hall of Fame I'm gonna let them say things to all you guys uh they're gonna
5:08
go through the cards and just have fun with it so I just hope everyone checks out the sports card Hall of Fame network
5:14
if they want to vote and go to there and you'll see the link of Channel and you
5:19
can click on that link in pretty much the same way that baseball is run uh you'll have the pictures of each cards
5:25
and you just select 10 cards so I'm going to take if left take her from
5:31
here all right Bart Scott you know I don't
5:36
know who wants to watch it go first kind of did you two well let me ask a question if I may uh there's a list of
5:44
45 cards I I have it in front of me I'm sure you have it and it was this you putting your your two heads together and
5:51
coming up with this initial uh class of 45 candidates I will say
5:58
yeah we we did uh uh we kind of got on our own just kind of worked to a list we
6:04
had hoped to get lists of 50 and I think we both realized it it started to get a
6:10
little watered down in the mid 40s where great cards obviously there's way more
6:15
than that than than you can start listing out but when we're thinking about the inaugural football card Hall
6:20
of Fame class we knew it was starting to get watered down so then we just uh kind of rallied up uh
6:26
uh with Ray Vic and Mike as well and uh we just kind of did a little arbitration between the two of us
6:33
um to see where we would uh hone in on it I think it was super easy for about the first 40. and then I think we just
6:40
probably did a little compromise for those last couple and he got a couple and I got a couple from uh from our
6:45
final choices but there weren't any real arguments there because uh uh you know it was just splitting hairs they were
6:51
all great cards at those points so um yeah since you know football cards
6:58
don't get a lot of love we've been probably anxiously awaiting this moment me and Scott and so we were we were
7:03
excited when we got the opportunity for sure yeah
7:09
Bart pretty much hit on all the key points there um I think we're both just excited for this opportunity to kind of
7:16
look into the especially more the Vintage side of football a little more we do have some more modern and
7:21
semi-modern players on there as well but you know so much of YouTube is centered around
7:26
the more modern football players uh your Mahomes of the world and Justin Herbert's and Joe Burrows and we've all
7:32
heard their cards and videos and uh they're a very exciting newer players but um you know I've I've been a fan of
7:39
Bart's Channel too um we've both been on YouTube I think for at least a decade um just we're both I think true
7:45
collectors as well him with the 49ers and myself with uh the Green Bay Packers and you know we kind of view the whole
7:53
football Spectrum through our own separate uh eyes I think um and we're just really excited to to
7:59
share the list with you well I'm not just saying this because I'm talking to you now I mean when when
8:06
I got the list a few days ago and was looking I'm I'm a huge football guy myself I mean it's it's going to be
8:13
tough that you know there's gonna be some really really good cards on the outside uh looking in after after the
8:19
first year so you that's just a mark of of putting a great list together uh you
8:25
know it's funny when I was looking through it guys I'm like to me that's a no-brainer that's a no-brainer that's a
8:31
no and I had more than 10 no-brainer so what I would call a no-brainer there's gonna be some no-brainers that don't get
8:38
in at least in the first uh class if you if you will we're going to go through uh
8:44
these uh you know and like you said uh Scott yeah you know obviously most of these guys are are retired uh players uh
8:52
Hall of Famers uh but you do have some some guys still uh still playing with uh
8:58
you know I'll give it away with uh Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers and and that and
9:04
you know somebody might say well you know should you wait till they're retired uh before they they make like a
9:12
football card Hall of Fame list and and my answer to that I'll let you guys answer that with Tom Brady we don't even
9:19
know when that day's ever going to come anymore so uh but uh your thoughts to
9:24
that I mean it's only a couple players so it's not a huge deal but did you did was that a topic of discussion when
9:31
putting the list together maybe not so much on whether the player
9:37
was retired uh I think we both probably leaned towards the side of we didn't want anything too recent uh to be on the
9:44
list we definitely were looking for staying power of the card and so uh those two guys that you may just
9:51
mentioned there have been in the league for quite some time so um those cards still have a little bit
9:57
of age to them um as far as how long they've been around and how long they've collected
10:02
the hobby enthusiasm and things like that so that's that's why we were willing to do it
10:08
um you know Patrick Mahomes prison while doing a lot of things for the Hobby and collecting a lot of Fame and stuff I
10:14
think both of us just uh weren't quite willing to to take that step as far as a
10:20
card that modern and that reason in production to put on this list at least for the first ballot right yeah
10:27
I I would agree with that uh Bart um you know Rogers and Brady are clearly two first ballot Hall of Famers and you
10:35
know two all-time greats in their own regard you know Rogers with some of his efficiency numbers and you know for 80
10:41
with just the number of Super Bowls and just his all-time winning numbers as well so I'd say I think those two got in
10:47
the list and we kind of stopped it with those two uh being on this first ballot
10:52
anyways and I I don't have to deal with anyone
10:58
in this room you know when you when you're talking to Vintage cards right one of the things I love about vintage
11:03
and why I I'm heavy vintage uh in comparison to Modern is you only have
11:08
one rookie card most of the time I mean there's a few exceptions where there could be two or three versions but with
11:14
the modern day uh cards right you know Patrick Mahomes has you know 125
11:20
different uh rookie cards uh you know I always get asked like hey which my homes rookie should I get I'm like whatever
11:27
one you love or you you know that does the for you know that moves your meter right so that's the that's the beauty of
11:34
vintage is you really can kind of focus especially when it when you're talking about a rookie card
11:40
um you can almost focus on on one card it sort of it doesn't get watered uh
11:46
down uh like some of the modern uh players so I think that's where our head
11:51
was at with the staying power you know give it a couple years for
11:57
um you know though all those cards to exist and see which ones kind of rise to the top in popularity and things like
12:02
that you know with panini prisms all right well if you know Fanatics buys them out and tops Comes Back to Football
12:09
hopefully right now um then that's what we need prism maintain that popularity and things like
12:14
that but I will say that uh we weren't exclusive to rookie cards uh for this it's just obviously when you're talking
12:20
vintage as you say um rookie cards uh reign supreme uh and
12:26
those older sets you know and uh and they just capture our eye a little bit faster than some of those second third
12:32
year cards and so on all right guys we're gonna we're gonna start I don't know if you want me to go
12:38
through again uh I'm you know I'm gonna put some for those that are gonna see this on YouTube I may Pop I may actually
12:45
have the real card here and I'll hold it up for those to see I do have some photos of cards I don't own uh and I'll
12:52
I'll put those up um any of you guys want to chime in uh talk about the card the player uh by all
13:00
means uh I'm I'm sure I'll have a few comments uh along the way we're gonna go in chronicle out logical order in other
13:07
words from the earliest year uh to present day or more modern day uh I
13:13
should say uh and we'll start with uh with card number one uh which is the
13:18
1933 uh sport Kings uh Red Grange I mean again this is a a iconic uh card uh you
13:28
know and again I don't wanna I could say this with every card right like if this doesn't get in I'd be surprised but
13:35
there's gonna be you know 35 surprises here that be instead so you know
13:42
anything you want to add with with the with the first card here on the list
13:48
Scott I'd like to check this one yeah thank you yeah you know I think these are this one and you know we could talk
13:54
about the next one on the list too the 33 Sport Kings Jim Thorpe they kind of go hand in hand those two cards those
14:00
are two cards that I own as well um they're just uh beautiful colorful
14:05
cards for the time and Jim Thorpe and uh Red Grange are just two of those first early football players that really uh
14:12
made the game popular uh you know Red Grange playing for the Bears and Chicago
14:17
area and was a great college player as well um and Jim Thorpe Mr uh all the first
14:24
multi-sport athlete really um with his uh Olympic Olympic stuff he
14:30
had going on and both of those two just did so much for the early game of football
14:37
yeah no doubt that Jim Thorpe I mean that card in high grade uh is six is six
14:43
figures obviously most know that it's sort of the you know you know when we talk baseball we everyone thinks of 52
14:50
uh tops man or I always kind of put that as the sort of the football uh
14:55
equivalent Thorp was just uh multi-sport just one of the greatest athletes uh you
15:02
know ever and that's just an iconic card it's that is that again that's gonna
15:07
probably I'm gonna be a broken record saying this I'd be surprised if that doesn't uh get in but that's what's
15:14
that's going to be the fun of this right is seeing what the the public uh you
15:19
know uh decides to where they cast uh their vote uh as well uh if you want to
15:26
do three and four and kind of put them uh together uh National chicklies the
15:31
the Newt Rockne and the Bronco uh nagursky I'm gonna put the the Rockne
15:36
card here up on the screen for those watching the video uh you know obviously
15:42
legendary coach but uh great player too people sometimes forget what a great
15:47
player was because you hear more about some of the great stories from his his coaching days but uh anything with you
15:55
know again with these two again classic iconic cards
16:00
uh 35 national chickle uh that's our first football set really
16:06
um that is the first nationally issued football set that's out there 33 Sport Kings was obviously a mixed bag of of
16:12
other sports and and I think other professions a little bit in there too
16:17
um but 35 national chickle uh All Pro players except uh Newt Rockne there but
16:23
um him and uh and Bronco Nagurski you know again with the Red Grange and Thorpe you just can't tell the the story
16:30
of football uh without those folks and Newt Rockne um known for the coach of Notre Dame The
16:37
Four Horsemen you know win one for the Gipper speech and those types of things uh College without college football we
16:46
wouldn't have had those Stepping Stones towards the NFL and so um and as the NFL was getting off you
16:52
know off its off the ground basically uh college football was was carrying them to those places they were creating the
16:59
the Stars you know the Galloping ghosts and things like that and then feeding them into the NFL and so uh NFL was
17:06
built on that and so those personalities and things lent themselves uh to the
17:11
growing of of professional football so Newt rock me is just a a big name in the
17:16
start of everything and so uh you know the one non-football player there uh in that Set uh definitely just uh
17:24
you know it Sparks interest it Sparks stories it Sparks memories it Sparks anything you could think of about what
17:31
is good about this Hobby and sports cards and things when you're thinking about it and then Bronco Nagurski
17:37
um that's just our you know obviously we've we've got a couple of good players there on the list and of cards that uh
17:44
you know fit the storyline of they're just a foundational piece to the NFL but
17:49
you know just a a hard nose where probably redgrange you know well absolutely tough all of them to play
17:54
both sides of the ball he's maybe kind of known as just being a little bit prettier a little bit faster Bronco
18:00
nagers just known for being hard-nosed and running through people he was just uh you know uh run through a brick wall
18:07
type of guy and uh so in that card itself um you know I I don't know of the overall
18:14
print runs back then but nowadays you see Pop reports and they're so small and
18:20
they just can't find those cat that's if we had a you know a relative mainstream
18:25
Holy Grail that would be the card yeah and what a beautiful what a
18:32
beautiful set it is to just uh the colors and uh it looks like something out of just a painting and uh it's just
18:38
beautiful and you know a lot of the cards of that set the total like PSA Pop reports are around 100 or so or less for
18:46
each of the cards total across all grades so yeah a lot different than you know some of the modern cards you talk
18:51
about yeah and a great Point too Bart uh you know with the the trickle said that's
18:57
the first like dedicated to football the sport Kings was sort of just uh from various
19:03
Sports speaking of of uh you know Rocky he what he did if I'm uh
19:10
a phenomous taken he had a 1933 sport Kings as well which isn't on your list
19:16
you know was that something you you discussed like Hey we're gonna put the
19:22
the chickle on but not the sport Kings and and what factors you know maybe led
19:27
to that I'm not sure if I'm familiar with that card to be honest
19:34
um yeah I I believe so but I'm I'm not I'm not positive well all right no no
19:40
problem I mean you know there's there's always going to be next year for for 35 of these cards and that one word and I
19:46
have a you know I mentioned to you before we recorded I got a card I wanted to to see on this list and hopefully uh
19:53
next year I'm gonna I'm gonna politic you know that's the one thing about my channel lobbying is okay we're welcome
20:00
to that yeah for one card so uh well let's group the next uh four together uh
20:06
five through eight they're all from the 1948 Leaf set I love the 1948 Leaf
20:12
baseball uh the football as well you got the Sid Luckman rookie the Bobby Lane
20:18
rookie Sammy ball rookie and the Chuck uh bed and Eric rookie
20:23
um obviously all rookie cards all Hall of Famers Legends of the sport uh kind
20:30
of easy you know when you're looking at that 48 Leaf set these definitely rise
20:35
to the top and they they come to the Forefront uh you know anything you want to add uh on those for on those four
20:43
I'll take a piece and throw it over to Scotty there but uh yeah 48 Leaf is our next set so obviously a big jump there
20:49
from 35 wait until waiting around till 48. um but uh you know as you list those in
20:56
a group you know it just kind of shows the the transition of football just through those couple of decades there
21:02
when we're talking about guys that uh if you look at their statistics they're heavy on the the running of of the
21:07
football and then all of a sudden three out of those four are quarterbacks right and uh you see the transition in
21:13
football and what starts to get popular as the Pigskins flying through the air uh with with Luckman uh and ball and
21:21
then uh bed and Eric you know just I mean concrete Charlie you know you got you
21:28
get a nickname like that we're probably all on board and a fantastic looking card too and you know as you said uh
21:35
there's multiple sports with 48 leaves I personally can't get enough of them I just love putting those things on
21:41
display they were all black and white photos and they were colored later and uh they just popped there's lots of
21:46
different variations and things so we didn't really specify you know whether he had a different color sock on or if
21:53
he had a nickname listed on his 48 Leaf because there are some variations with those players that you're talking about but uh some beautiful cards and uh and
22:02
you know quarterbacks working already and so you saw three out of four of those being quarterbacks
22:09
yeah just to add um to what BART was saying you know three of the four are quarterbacks
22:14
um the Sammy ball is probably the most popular card um in that set the bed there card is very expensive yeah it's a short print
22:21
and it's very hard to find even I mean I think like a psa6 just sold for like twelve thousand dollars or eleven
22:27
thousand dollars so it's a very uh expensive card and you know for NFL collectors and especially uh
22:34
Eagles collectors as well um but you know that 48 set is just really a colorful set as well I think
22:40
that's just a set that has a lot of staying power um from over the years um and for ironically it is a very trim
22:46
set too so um if you do decide to collect that Set uh it's uh very advantageous just to
22:53
kind of buy full bordered cards if you can find them because those sets were like uh a trimmer's dream for like many
23:00
decades for whatever reason yeah and and with the price of what they
23:06
go for uh great Point Scott too probably I hate to say it like this but you're probably almost better off buying a
23:11
graded uh specimen that way you know and uh you don't get uh taking advantage of
23:18
uh some of those as we know in the hobby some of these trimmers are very unfortunately very good uh at what they
23:25
do they sometimes even full uh the grading companies is crazy uh as that
23:30
sound everyone in this room knows what I'm about to say but this is more of a PSA for those uh maybe listening that
23:38
don't realize it or watching someone might say well why you know it went from
23:44
35 to 48 uh and they obviously uh with the war going on uh you know cards were
23:51
not uh in production uh during those years so it wasn't like there wasn't any
23:56
worthy candidates uh for 13 years uh there just wasn't any any cards during
24:02
that time period so there's there's that space Gap I think my I think the majority of collectors and hobbies do
24:08
know that but just just to fill in that uh just in case the anyone was wondering
24:15
so we go to card number nine uh on this list and uh just so everyone knows we're going uh by year order this is not what
24:23
uh you know Scott or Bart necessarily are ranking them we're just going from earliest year uh all the way up uh to
24:30
modern day uh number nine is the 1950 Bowman uh Otto Graham uh rookie card
24:37
again another like all these cards are going to be iconic cards I'm gonna sound like a broken record you know people who
24:44
aren't die hard football fans don't realize uh how great Otto Graham uh was
24:50
and uh you know one of those early quarterbacks that you know it's hard to
24:56
compare uh quarterbacks from different eras and and whatnot and uh but uh one
25:01
of one of the early great once and many quarterbacks wanted to you know great
25:07
quarterbacks that came later wanted to be Otto Graham uh and and someone they looked up to
25:13
um I don't know if you want to add anything or uh with Otto Graham or or not but uh feel free
25:21
just uh autogram's just a great uh great player he was just a winner um I think he won something like nine
25:27
straight all Pros or nine straight Pro bowls I forget which one it was but I don't think they have not even care if they had the Pro Bowl yet at that time
25:34
but it was like nothing straight All Pro all League type of ways I think they did yeah all League are all Pros
25:41
yeah multiple uh championships as well um and just the winner over the time I
25:46
actually just picked up this card last year uh and um I think it was a PSA five and it's just a gorgeous looking card I
25:52
love the 1950 Bowman set it's very simple uh it's similar to the 1950 Bowman baseball set just a picture on
25:58
the front no name on the front and I it's just kind of a card that's just art basically
26:06
yeah yeah no doubt all right uh number 10 on the list I'm
26:11
gonna put it on screen here for those watching uh the video it's the uh 1951
26:17
Bowman uh Tom Landry uh there are a lot of people who only know Tom Landry uh
26:25
wearing the Fedora on the Dallas Cowboy Sidelines uh but he played uh he was
26:31
obviously uh as you see here at a New York Giant which I always find interesting being a a you know a
26:37
legendary uh Cowboys coach better Coach uh this is one of those where you know
26:43
probably more known obviously of force coaching when I showed my son that card
26:48
uh he knew who and my son's 23 so this is you know he's younger um he knew Tom Landry as the coach of
26:56
the Cowboys in the Hat but he didn't realize he played he didn't realize he played for the Giants now in his defense
27:03
he's 23. but I I I think there's a lot of people even maybe a little bit older
27:08
than the 23 that didn't realize you know Tom Tom Landry was the player in his own
27:15
right but uh more known for the coaching prowess and and the Super Bowls uh and
27:20
and all that stuff but again another iconic card the shot of the card with
27:26
him throwing up all kind of uh you know in action uh just a a cool card it's a
27:32
card sort of I don't own it at this point but it's on my it's on my list of someday maybe to uh acquire uh any
27:40
anything you guys want to add with with Tom Landry the card or or the player slash coach
27:46
it's uh 51 Bowman's just a real popular set um you know 50 Bowman is pretty iconic
27:53
in itself ascani said you know I I do personally like a little bit more color and a little bit more size to the cards
28:00
I love me some 1950 Bowman just because there's so many key cards to my collection that had to be 1950s but 51s
28:05
it's a bigger card you have some beautiful team uh you know at this point vintage old school logos on on those
28:12
cards um you know Tom Landry it uh it always helps to be in a major media market for
28:18
sports cards and things like that so New York always helps and uh in New York in the 50s was just kind of a almost a
28:24
mecca for sports and things like that or in multiple um Sports not just football so that
28:30
helps his popularity builds it up and then obviously if you have a coach of uh America's team for so many years you
28:38
know people are going to look around for you know memories and artifacts or something like that to to you know have
28:45
in their collections for him and guess what he was a player so that's pretty cool uh yeah people don't don't realize
28:51
that he was uh you know he got all pro one year um he was a defensive back and a punter uh had over 30 interceptions in his
28:58
career in 300 some punts so uh it wasn't just some bum that decided to turn coach
29:04
he was a legitimate player too and uh and known for both big teams but not a
29:09
Hall of Famer as a player um just as a coach there and
29:15
on us on a side note I'm just trying to sorry on a side note I was just trying
29:20
to picture you know Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi as coordinators on the same team which is pretty ridiculous to think
29:26
about yeah yeah we could do a whole show on some
29:31
legendary coaches coaching staffs even before they became head coaches just uh
29:36
three or four like Hall of Fame coaches on one on one sideline just uh just
29:42
crazy stuff like you just pointed out there uh Scott all right moving on to
29:48
the 1952 The Bowman large you have two cards uh ten in a uh 11 and 12. uh Jim
29:55
Lansford rookie and Frank Gifford uh rookie Frank Gifford uh both great
30:01
players uh Frank Gifford also went on to become uh you know in the media in in
30:07
broadcasting uh in in even known in his own right uh for that and then the Kathy
30:13
Lee Gifford obviously but uh again uh you know the Frank Gifford stands out of
30:19
the two cards uh to me uh just because even people who aren't football fans uh
30:26
got to know Frank Gifford even after his his playing career any any side note you
30:31
guys want to add with these two uh cards from the the 52 large
30:36
uh just building on 51 the cards got bigger the cards got more colorful uh uh
30:42
and so they they grab your eye real fast Bowman made small and large that year
30:47
um the uh large was a little bit more scarce and then obviously you know just
30:52
the size of the card lends itself to damage and things like that too so uh you have some conditioned things that go
30:58
along with that that helps a little bit with the the Lansford rookie as well not just a Hall of Fame rookie but he was
31:04
the last card in the set so um printing capabilities and things like
31:10
that those those cards that are found on corners of printing sheets it just did not go well historically and then uh
31:16
yeah same things as you also you said for for Gifford and like I said major
31:22
media Market uh Giants and then I that card is just beautiful to me and the the
31:27
post the the helmet uh the carrying of the football and everything like that that one just screams vintage football
31:35
yeah no doubt no doubt um moving on kind of moving along 55
31:41
tops All-American you got three cards from this particular set you get the the
31:47
Jim Thorpe Don Hudson and this the next card uh in the 15th slot just on the
31:52
list uh that four horsemen card uh you mentioned them earlier uh in the conversation this is the card is a
32:00
legendary card uh you know now you rather than have one a great player you
32:05
have four uh and uh you know I'd be surprised I'll go on I'll say it I'd be
32:11
surprised if that card uh doesn't get in it it's probably gonna and if it doesn't it's going to be right on that that cusp
32:19
uh anything you want to add with these three uh the 55 Taps on American
32:26
um well I'll just start with the four horsemen card you know as you mentioned uh depicting the Notre Dame backfield
32:32
um and just I I find it ironic that like two of the only College cards on here are Notre Dame related just goes to show
32:39
you like how big of a Powerhouse Notre Dame was uh during that time and it is
32:44
just a beautiful card a lot of great color just it just looks so iconic with the four players standing there
32:50
um you got the cool logos on these 55 Topsail Americans for their college teams that they're on uh the same thing
32:55
with the Don Hudson and Alabama um and I believe the Jim Thorpe has the Carlisle Indians uh logo on logo on
33:02
there and um that's cards just beautiful too the Jim Thorpe it's got that deep blue color
33:08
um and then the Hudson kind of just reminds me of that big time period between 35 and 48 when there was nothing
33:15
that was pretty much Don Hudson's entire career so the only other cut and he's
33:20
you know arguably one of the best players of all time at any position and he doesn't have have a card until 1955.
33:27
he does have uh 34 Wheaties card uh which I actually have I was just picked
33:32
that up last year um very scarce card but nothing in the mainstream for uh Don Hudson over that
33:38
entire time period of his of his career which is like a 10-year span
33:43
yeah it's a Scotty's point you know we had such a big gap that that set reached back into those Lost Years and provided
33:51
us those players um via their college uniforms and everything like that but there's a lot
33:57
of nostalgia that goes with that because you know if you know you're like a Heisman collector or something so many
34:02
of the I don't know how probably first 15 to 20 or so years of Heisman Trophy
34:07
winners are in that set as well um beautiful color and then there's a lot while not being too much I would say
34:14
there's a lot going on on those cards uh color variations and then um whether it's horizontal and vertical
34:20
and things like that they were exploring some neat stuff um and so and you had all those big
34:25
names from the first 30 years of football carrying that set um definitely a big time popular set
34:33
amongst football collectors for sure so the big names are are going to get some yeah no doubt and I'm sure
34:39
you know walking around the national you know I you know how many times someone
34:44
you know ask a dealer hey I'm looking for the four horsemen card have it just a real in demand uh you know on many of
34:52
a want list and so again it's a it's an iconic classic car that could be hard
34:58
it's gonna get in it's just whether it doesn't get in uh this year or or and if
35:04
not you know definitely at the top of the list uh for uh future classes uh
35:10
going moving on through uh 57 tops you got three cards 16 17 and 18 uh on the
35:17
list uh uh highlighted by two legendary quarterbacks uh Johnny you Johnny Unitas
35:24
rookie Bart Star rookie and uh no slouch himself uh poor Paul horning rookie so I
35:31
mean just uh again a great set uh highlighted by three legendary Hall of
35:39
Famers so again these I'm sure were easily Rose to the top up when you were
35:44
compiling uh your list so any anything you guys want to add to those guys will
35:50
by all means it helps when the player makes the card right so some some great hall of famers
35:56
carrying that set and that's that leads to the popularity of most larger sets in
36:01
any sport if there's a strong rookie class there and so uh you can't beat any of those three you know a horizontal set
36:08
with two pictures now offered to you right one action shot and one kind of portrait photo if you will and uh and
36:15
just those guys uh carried football you know from from there they're on set
36:21
through the 60s and stuff so lots of popularity there I'll pass it on to Scotty he's got some favorite cards in
36:26
that set yeah there there is definitely a couple of uh big time Packer rookies in the set
36:32
with a star and horning and obviously the United is uh just an All-American
36:37
great card as well just uh the green green color in the background just awesome
36:42
um one interesting thing about that set is the I believe the United is actually a double print so there's a lot more of
36:48
those floating around out there in The Ether than the star so you're only going to see about half if you look at the top
36:54
reports they're about half the stars are graded as the United but both are extremely popular
37:00
um obviously uh Bart Starr was the quarterback for the five championships for the Packers in the 60s uh Lombardi
37:06
teams um so very Packers have a great collecting base and obviously that's a
37:12
big reason that makes the star popular um and as you mentioned horning um you know he had the all-time uh
37:18
points in the season record um at 176 for many many years um until LaDainian Tomlinson broke that
37:24
in 2006. um so just a great player in his own right he did it all he you know caught
37:29
the ball around the ball I think he was a kicker as well that helped him get those Point totals up there so I just
37:35
love the set just super colorful just like so many of the 1950s sets are now I gotta ask you you met you made a
37:42
great point in that the the uh United is is twice as you know double printed in comparison to the star not everyone's
37:50
gonna know that but those that do do you think that will influence voting do you
37:55
think that makes maybe the star a better chance to get in on this first inaugural
38:02
ballot that's a good that's a good question I'm a little biased because you know I am a
38:07
Packers fan but I do think the United is probably a little more popular than the star among collectors overall but um if
38:14
you look at the pricing um the pricing's I think pretty similar actually yeah I do think the United is more popular
38:20
nationally yeah but to your point I think there is some level of availability that leads to
38:27
popularity right like if it's overly scarce then it doesn't make the want
38:32
lists because I may not run into that and if I do it's at some crazy price point or something like that so yeah uh
38:38
it does have to be somewhat prevalent in order to be like that's a high demand card we want that one and so Unitus wins
38:44
with with that regard yeah yeah no doubt great Point uh next
38:50
card is a card I own so uh uh you know gets my vote uh and and again I'm
38:56
originally from New York City but now in Syracuse uh this gentleman uh is a Syracuse letter he's a he's just a
39:03
legend but especially here uh and Syracuse arguably one of the greatest all-time football players I do own a
39:09
card so for those watching I'm gonna hold it up for for those to see uh I'm talking about the 58 uh Jim Brown rookie
39:18
Taps a card known for condition issues uh this is a psa3 still still a nice
39:25
card and uh you know uh presents very well for a PS psa3 I'll just chime in
39:33
because I know quite a bit about uh Jim Brown uh you know great football player
39:39
obviously uh went on to become an actor in Hollywood uh known for not taking a
39:45
lot of crap uh you know even off the field uh and uh but he was a uh many
39:52
people saw he played lacrosse as well uh here at Syracuse University and many
39:58
will tell you who were around to see him play he was a better lacrosse player than a football player as crazy as that
40:05
sounds it just was no professional lacrosse leagues after college so his
40:10
choice was very uh very easy and um you know started the legend of 44. uh at the
40:17
University and it's uh you know it was only given to certain players after him
40:22
Floyd little Ernie Davis who will come up again uh
40:28
during tonight's conversation uh and then really never worn since Rob Conrad
40:33
was the last to wear the 44 uh at Syracuse there's always talk you know
40:40
especially now with the nil to bring it back and and give it to like a five-star
40:45
uh recruit to get him uh to come here but uh I've said enough you know I'm
40:52
partial of the Jim Brown uh you know many people say he's not the nicest guy in the world but you can't argue with
40:59
the performance on the field and then his post career uh as an actor as well
41:05
and anything you you want to add there I covered a lot but uh you know feel free
41:13
he dominated from day one ten consecutive years of domination uh
41:18
rushing title upon rushing title um obviously you know it's touchdown records and things like that they've all
41:24
been surpassed since but he played probably you know less games overall for sure but less games per season as well
41:29
back then but there was just no no question about uh where Jim Brown stands in the in football lore as it were but
41:36
then the card itself um you know if we were to ever you know make an NFL logo in the same vein that
41:43
the NBA logo makes with Jerry West it might be this pose right here uh you can spot you know the angles of him running
41:51
and and this card in this outline you know from 100 meters to know exactly what you're you're looking at and
41:57
everything like that so it's very iconic card uh with such significant contrast with that black
42:02
background and things like that um and you know there was no better player uh you know uh running the ball
42:10
for his time in football that's a great points Bart
42:15
um and I think that I think all of us would be pretty surprised if he didn't get in on the first ballot uh this year
42:20
yeah yeah I'm not gonna lie I'm not trying to get anyone else to vote just
42:26
because I am but that's going to be one of mine uh for sure one a a great quote
42:31
not a quote but I don't remember exactly what it a reporter if you watch some of the old film of him uh running the ball
42:38
he used to tend to run into traffic and I remember a reporter asked them like
42:44
you're not slow why why are you running toward the defender rather than avoid
42:51
him and he's you know said I want a lady to hit you know he liked to uh you know
42:56
as a as an offensive player he liked to inflict pain he never would run out of
43:01
bounds uh you know he would often get asked why you know when you're that important player to your team why not
43:08
when you know when you're no more yards to get run out of bounds and live for
43:13
the next play and that just wasn't his mentality he wanted to let his presence
43:20
uh be felt even as an offensive uh player and it's just something as you
43:26
know playing in high school myself and youth is something I just always always remember that for me I was you know as a
43:33
tight end I wasn't gonna outrun anybody so I always liked the lower a little shoulder uh as well so but uh again like
43:41
you guys said uh it'd be a shocker uh if it doesn't it doesn't get in but uh
43:46
we'll see what the results uh uh bear out but I'm again I'm a little biased
43:51
too uh next two cards are from the 1962 uh top set you got Iron Mike Ditka and
43:58
you got Fran Tarkington I'm gonna put the Decca on the screen I mean he just looked the part right I mean just the
44:06
just a a a a mean dude played hard and
44:12
then obviously uh became a legendary uh Bears uh coach as well Saturday night
44:19
lives kids dick got and and uh you know went on a broadcasting career uh himself
44:25
the sweater I mean we could go on uh for for days uh just a classic uh a classic
44:32
car Fran Tarkington really one of those first quarterbacks right that integrated
44:39
the running game uh as a quarterback to to avoid a rush and roll out and make
44:45
plays uh with his legs it's obviously common in today's NFL but back then it
44:50
was not the not the norm As We Know It uh today so uh I I hope you know when I
44:56
think of Tarkington I'm a Steelers fan so I'm not a Vikings guy per se I always
45:02
thought he was sort of underrated I always thought like people overlooked them uh and and you know but when you
45:10
look at what he did I mean you know he didn't get a Super Bowl ring I think that sort of hurt his his perception
45:17
which I don't think is always reality uh but a legendary quarterback too that I
45:23
think like I just said doesn't get enough enough shine uh for what for for
45:28
his playing days uh anything you guys want to jump in here and and add to to
45:33
what I said by all means well for Fran exactly he went over four
45:39
in Super Bowls in the 70s so he was the Jim Kelly of his ERA with some fast feet
45:45
um and then the 62 top Set uh you know some days we we carry these years on we'll there will be some some non-rookie
45:52
cards from 62 that potentially get in like unite Us and other things just because it's such a popular set
45:58
um with that you know just black borders and the design the horizontal uh with the black and white photo kind of a an
46:04
homage to years before but hey we're cool now in the 60s and we can print color and things and we have some of
46:10
that too um so just great looking cards and then uh you know condition sensitive which
46:15
creates a little bit extra of Chase and a little bit extra popularity and uh Mike Ditka lived multiple lives over the
46:23
years right you know he was successful at basically anything he did and he just you know kept doing different things
46:29
from player to coach to announcer Etc so uh you know just an icon in his own
46:35
right it's kind of what you've got Yeah you mentioned uh the Johnny Unitas from the 62 top set as well um the Jim
46:42
Brown is also a very popular card from that set and um there's a just a slew of cards from that set that are really kind
46:49
of iconic in their own right um as far as the the Ditka goes uh although he was a great player certainly
46:55
the you know 85 Bears uh coach and all of that all the pop culture Saturday Night Live stuff that comes with him is
47:01
it the beer commercials yeah yeah I think that it only helps the popularity
47:06
of that card for him yeah and and this is one of my guys this
47:11
is one of my favorite sets just as a as a standalone set forget the the player in the checklist uh like you said Bart
47:19
you got the black borders which are obviously make them immediately conditioned sensitive uh but I love the
47:25
Set uh like you said the horizontal and then you got that in action uh black and white uh inset shot uh I'm gonna pile a
47:33
tick here I mentioned it earlier on the show I was going to politick for a card that didn't make the list and again a
47:39
little more Syracuse uh Homer here um he didn't actually ever get to play in the NFL but he he is on the 62 uh
47:48
Topps card obviously his work I have the card here for those that are are watching in video form it's the uh 62
47:56
tops Ernie Davis uh rookie if you watch the uh you know uh the express uh with
48:03
Dennis Quaid that movie was a pretty much a that was about uh Ernie Davis I
48:08
unfortunately he was the number one draft pick and it was funny because he
48:14
was drafted by the Cleveland Browns who had Jim Brown basically his predecessor
48:20
and unfortunately was diagnosed with leukemia was in training camp but
48:26
unfortunately the disease uh you know cost him uh his life and never got to
48:33
play on the field but those of us here in Syracuse uh would would tell you uh
48:40
had had he not been dealt that cruel Twist of Faith um he was going to be an
48:47
NFL legend in his own right playing with Jim Brown someone who who basically uh
48:54
you know helped him recruit him to Syracuse uh and um you know what it's
49:00
the old what could have been it's just an iconic car that was a PSA 5 which
49:05
like he's like we said with that with those conditions sensitive 6 62. so I I
49:10
know it's not on the list this year guys uh but I'm politicking here to someday
49:15
whether it be next year or some year down the line uh see that 62 uh tops
49:21
Ernie Davis I know he didn't obviously play uh get the to fulfill his his uh
49:27
career as the number one draft pick but um obviously not not his fault but an
49:33
iconic card uh at least to me and I think to to some others as well so little Shameless little Shameless
49:40
homerism uh there but I think uh you know many it's a it is a desirable card
49:46
so it could be a future candidate uh there as well so going to 63 we we've
49:53
got something other than tops we got 63 flear uh with the Len Dawson and Lance
49:58
Alworth uh rookies uh again you know all these guys are going to be Hall of
50:04
Famers so uh you know it's a broken record but uh uh Len Dawson just
50:10
recently passed away as well wanted to add that Lance Alworth another guy he's
50:16
sort of reminds me of the Fran Tarkington of the receiver world just didn't get as much credit uh as as he
50:24
should have and um you know those who maybe are a little bit more football historians or care about the history to
50:31
gain no but I think people who aren't as such uh kind of Overlook them or bypass
50:38
them just uh you know really one of the first great wide receivers uh you know
50:44
I'm not first one but really sort of a game-changing type of uh player uh any
50:51
again I'll hand it off to you guys anything you want to chime in here
50:56
I'm just mentioning about the Set uh 63 flear uh for those who don't know AFL
51:02
and NFL were separate and in that time period And so uh AFL uh for those years
51:08
we're in a different set than than the NFL so NFL was over in tops and AFL was in uh in the Fleer as you mentioned and
51:15
these are kind of the first two big cards for the AFL uh they had a couple years prior to that but these are the
51:22
the first two you know stars that their cards kind of took off and they were a Mainstay for the for
51:29
being and during the couple years for the AFL before the merger and uh
51:35
great Stars I'm always a big fan of Len Dawson with just the old school you know smoking cigarettes at halftimes and
51:42
things like that but and getting pictures taken but um you know we need definitely need to speak the history of the game through
51:49
the cards and so AFL has to be represented and uh two great players to
51:55
do so yeah that's a good point Bart you know I
52:00
think uh Lance Alworth was the first uh AFL player uh put into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
52:06
um and so yeah he definitely has to be on the list and of course lend us and the great iconic uh Chiefs quarterback
52:13
as well so um otherwise I think you pretty much touched on everything with those two
52:18
yeah uh moving along what we'll kind of pick it up you got seek the next card
52:23
number 24 going in chronological order of the 1963 Topps uh Ray nichkey uh you
52:31
know nichkey a great player uh in his own right 65 tops uh Joe Willie Namath
52:39
uh rookie you know I'm not a big you know speaking personally I'm not a big Joe Namath guy
52:45
um you know I think he sort of some of the off the field stuff uh sort of gave
52:51
him a little you know a little more when you look at you know again it's a different error but uh you know and I'm
52:57
a Steelers guy and I will tell you I'm not a a huge Terry Bradshaw fan it
53:03
surprises people and he's coming up on the list as well but some of these quarterbacks that threw almost as many
53:09
interceptions as touchdowns I mean we all know Joe name is famous for
53:14
guaranteeing uh the Super Bowl victory and and then delivering it I think that
53:21
sort of made his career and then obviously the off the field stuff and uh
53:27
but uh he's a Hall of Famer right he's in whether you with the agree or disagree and uh he's an iconic uh figure
53:35
and uh you know still talked about and uh for for very even after his playing
53:41
career Susie Colbert most people know uh that story but uh
53:48
you know so uh I don't want to ask you know anything you want to a quick add
53:53
with uh with the name at the nichkey well I think I think uh you know Ray
53:59
nichkey um what's what's cool about that set the 63 top set is you almost get like a a color match for the teams you
54:06
know the ridiculous kind of green and yellow on the borders and even another card that we considered putting on this list the Bob Lily for the Cowboys is
54:13
kind of like almost blue and uh red around the borders so it's kind of like it's almost like a little bit of
54:19
a color match to some of these which is kind of a unique aspect um both both are great cards and then the name it of course you know I just
54:26
think that's it's more of a pop culture card as well I think that um the the New York uh area does play a
54:33
huge part in why this card is popular just being in the population Center and the card actually says New York on it in
54:39
big bold letters I think it's just a card that people like and I love the picture the story is interesting about
54:45
the card right the picture of his face on the front of it I think he was sick or recovering from surgery at the time
54:51
and when they took that photo so um the whole card itself has kind of an iconic story behind it so it's kind of
54:56
interesting yeah and tall boy was just a new design uh new thing coming up so much color
55:02
because of because of the presentation there so to your point John I you know the card does surpass the the player's
55:10
status in the NFL in this case um it's a short print so that leads to a
55:16
little bit more Chase and then condition issues of you know I can only imagine how tough it was to store cards and
55:23
things like that back in the day but yeah protect some with the others but tall
55:30
boys weren't going to give you that opportunity compared to your other years um and so that just adds to some of the
55:36
challenges and things like that but this card definitely transcends the player uh because yeah it's it's not always the
55:42
best exercise to look at the touchdown to interception ratio of some of these forms
55:48
yeah yeah no you're right you're right uh go moving on the 66 uh Philadelphia
55:54
uh Dick Butkus uh Gail Sayers uh again you know the players speak uh for
56:01
themselves uh Gail Sayers not the longest career uh you know uh had some
56:07
injuries but uh uh one of the greatest running backs to to ever do it uh and
56:12
Dick Buck is just you just have to say Dick Butkus and you usually use people cringe just on the name alone so
56:20
um again uh two I'll say it kind of easy choices uh uh but again when you're
56:26
compiling this list right you you when you're only limited to four especially on the first this is the first ballot
56:33
right so this is it's not as easy uh as people might might think but uh uh two
56:39
great cards any anything you want to throw in there oh since this this is probably the only
56:44
time we'll talk about Philadelphia this was the the NFL's equivalent of what tops was to the AFL during this time
56:51
period uh from 64 to 67 and yeah these were no-brainer cards we didn't have to
56:56
discuss or or binge her about it it was they were on the ballot there's no question about it the monster some
57:01
Monsters of the Midway and uh Gail Sayers uh you know has an all-time great pose on this this card as well yeah
57:08
absolutely yep all right next card uh gonna get
57:13
gonna move the meter here one way or the other right thing now I'm gonna put it on the screen uh this is a card I own
57:20
I'm not gonna I don't actually have it on my desk here uh 1970 tops O.J Simpson
57:28
rookie uh I mean just the name alone is going to bring up all the stuff we all
57:34
know about um do you think I mean obviously O.J Simpson the player is a one of the
57:43
all-time great running backs right uh first you know 2 000 yards and uh just
57:49
in incredible uh player and then you know we know what happened uh once this
57:55
uh after his playing date do you think that case and all that's involved you
58:02
think that hurts the voting when it comes to this card vote you think that factors in at all
58:09
probably and I would say be the voting I don't think it really hurts the
58:14
collectibility of the card and the popularity of the card if you are a vintage football collector uh you have
58:22
or you will be getting this card um you know all of the things that he did in the 70s the 2000 yard seasons and
58:29
things like that in 14 game Seasons just crazy stuff and you know the highlights just are awesome to watch
58:38
um but to your point if there are you know because there will always be folks and we want those uh
58:44
periphery you know folks we want some baseball folks jumping over and getting football popular with them and stuff
58:50
like that then yes the pop culture stuff will will probably jump into that
58:56
um I'm also admin for PSA sports card collectors group and anytime it's been a while but anytime somebody shares with
59:02
that card uh you know the comment section gets a little Lively um and so I think it's been quite some
59:09
time since somebody shared it for that reason but um collectors are still going to go after this card for sure
59:16
yeah I I agree um he's on this list uh for his football accolades um not so
59:22
much his uh post football accolades yeah no doubt I spoke a little bit about
59:28
this next gentleman it's a card I own as a Steeler fan it's the 71 Topps uh Terry
59:34
Bradshaw rookie I'll put it uh on my uh on my camera here that says uh uh psa5
59:40
uh crazy as it sounds I'm a huge Steeler fan even growing up in New York City and
59:47
not you know people always say oh man you must love Terry Bradshaw and they're shocked when I tell them not really I
59:55
like I I know he's a great player for Super Bowl rings probably wouldn't have them without him but I'm I'm more of a
1:00:01
Mean Joe Green Guy uh and uh and that car didn't uh didn't make the list so
1:00:08
I'm hoping to see uh mean Gerald Green's uh rookie again I'm going to politic uh
1:00:14
uh from a person personal point of view uh Mean Joe Greene I you know arguably
1:00:20
one of the greatest defensive players of all time and quite frankly was the Catalyst for the Steelers becoming you
1:00:27
know lovable going from lovable losers to Perennial Super Bowl uh you know uh
1:00:34
Champion uh every year and he was the guy for me the coke commercial and all
1:00:40
that I know he's not on the list so I'm not gonna go go off on the tangent but Carrie Bradshaw is
1:00:47
um I would have went with uh mean Joe but again I'm biased but Bradshaw four
1:00:52
rings uh no doubt uh you know outspoken right good for some one-liners and not
1:01:00
never never shied away from the microphone before the game after the game uh and if you could get to one
1:01:06
during the game uh he would have uh as well obviously post career uh doing the
1:01:13
you know uh still working doing uh you know as an analyst uh and just uh you
1:01:20
know he's a guy you can laugh at he'll laugh at himself and uh I I I think some
1:01:26
of that post-career stuff too probably has them on this list would you would
1:01:31
you agree with that uh with that point I would um I mean the four Super Bowl uh
1:01:38
I think are probably enough to get him on the list alone but uh certainly it doesn't help some of the pop culture
1:01:43
things after his after he was done with his playing days um and I totally agree with your sentiment um on defensive players
1:01:50
um you know really Niche you on my all-time favorite players and another player we'll talk about coming up is Reggie Reggie White one of my all-time
1:01:57
favorite players so I totally get that uh sentiment but uh that uh 71 top set is just uh it's interesting it's very
1:02:03
tough because of those colored borders and um I definitely think Terry Bradshaw deserves to be on the list either way
1:02:10
yeah I I just I guess I'm a little biased that I'm just not a huge fan uh
1:02:16
Scott so I'll I'll throw myself a little bit under the bus uh I've I've learned
1:02:21
to kind of love them a little bit more like now than you know I did I I was
1:02:28
just so into mean Joe was my guy that I gave him more credit than probably uh
1:02:33
Terry I probably to a fall to a fault to be 100 Trans yeah like like Scotty said
1:02:39
you're preaching to the choir we're both defensive fans so uh we love Mean Joe Green Card as well he's the the number
1:02:46
two card in that set but um you know the quarterbacks win the day you know how it goes yeah football it's
1:02:52
you know if there's an analogy there then the quarterback is our home run hitter and uh you definitely need people
1:02:57
that are hitting you know 40 doubles a year and getting plenty of hits and things like that but those are your
1:03:03
Defenders and they don't always quite get the popularity when it comes to the Hobby for sure yep uh moving on with card number 30 uh
1:03:12
1972 Topps uh Roger Staubach rookie uh you know great quarterback America's
1:03:19
team Tom Landry uh Super Bowls uh served
1:03:25
in the military um really you know soft-spoken guy uh
1:03:30
but uh great competitor uh you know this card is good to me whether it gets in
1:03:36
this time or it's it's just the eventual uh you know easy one to put on the list
1:03:42
uh anything you want to add there that I didn't cover or you wanted to add to it
1:03:51
yeah easy ad um you know just uh Captain America right squeak squeaky clean background uh
1:03:59
you know I'm sure even if a kid didn't know who that was their parents were were seeing uh the example that he was
1:04:06
setting it and pushing towards them and stuff like that so absolutely and uh you know not a big numbers guy but a high
1:04:12
efficiency guy one of the first guys that you know really made his um you know got a claim for those types
1:04:20
of things and uh 72 is a popular colorful Set uh there's some not so good
1:04:25
looking cards in that set but this one pops with the pink and everything like that it just it it's got its own new
1:04:30
design in the 70s and uh and this one leads the way and a funny story you know being a
1:04:37
Steeler fan right like the Cowboys were really sort of the arch rival right as a Steeler fan you didn't like uh Cowboy
1:04:45
players but Roger Staubach was just such a great guy and and a nice guy that even
1:04:50
as a Steeler fan it was tough to root against them or or wish Mill so that's
1:04:56
the cat that'll that'll tell you something uh right there for me this next one uh number 31 on the list is a
1:05:04
card I own as well um uh again I'm gonna say it I'll be shocked if this one uh doesn't get in on
1:05:11
the first ballot it's a 1976 uh Walter Payton rookie which I'll put on the
1:05:17
screen here this is a psa6 uh version of it uh iconic card right you
1:05:26
got the the big facial you know facial close-up a lot of times as we know with
1:05:31
football cards a lot of times you don't get that you get them you know in the helmet you see their face through the
1:05:37
helmet but this one is is uh you know sweetness in all his glory uh close up
1:05:43
and another guy that just did it the right way didn't do a lot of trash talking just did his talking uh with
1:05:51
this play on the field and uh unfortunately uh died very young and too
1:05:56
soon even though it was you know he played a full career but uh we didn't get to enjoy him uh post career and uh
1:06:03
I'm not a Bears fan but you don't have to be a Bears fan uh to really know the
1:06:09
greatness of Walter Payton so I'll just say I'd be surprised if this isn't one of the ten uh and uh you know it's not
1:06:17
and if it isn't it's not going to be long before uh it's it's in this Hall of
1:06:23
Fame card Hall so yeah I'm I'm not a big Bears fan either
1:06:33
you made a good point about like the facial portrait of that card it really does show his face and a lot of times
1:06:39
football cards you do not get to see that I think if there is a if there's like one card that any Chicago Bears
1:06:45
collector would want like this is probably the card this is like the person they go to
1:06:50
um yeah to look at for their um kind of like their Michael Jordan almost
1:06:58
that's the card for a bearish collector I think yeah absolutely and 76 is not a good
1:07:05
looking set so for this card to have that kind of popularity he's carrying it pretty good because the designs are
1:07:11
pretty weak you don't have regular team logos you've just got silly fonts for your team names and things like that so
1:07:18
still a card Carries On yeah no doubt it's one of those cards like I said I'm not a bears guy but I'm
1:07:25
like I have to have that card's going into PC and uh it's been there I've been there a while I'm gonna start rattling
1:07:32
these off like two or three at a time guys even if they're not the same year and then you can kind of uh chime in
1:07:37
with any kind of comments uh on them the next three cards on the list is the 81
1:07:42
Topps Montana rookie the 82 tops uh LT Lawrence Taylor rookie the first LT
1:07:49
until Tomlinson uh came along later in the 84 I'll I'll go for uh 84 tops uh
1:07:56
Dan Marino and John Elway rookie so you got all rookies Montana LT Mourinho in
1:08:03
Elway these guys were really you could make a point that they were sort of the face of the 80s in the NFL all four of
1:08:11
these guys and uh you know Mourinho uh gets to the Super Bowl in his rookie year doesn't win it uh Redskins beat him
1:08:19
and then never gets back and he's a a great obviously a great quarterback I
1:08:25
think not getting that ring uh sort of hurt him a little bit but uh no one can
1:08:31
argue That's a classic card 88 you know specifically the 84 tops I can't tell
1:08:37
you how many offs the centering on those is is brutal uh as you guys well know
1:08:43
and uh so to find you know they're definitely a condition sensitive card
1:08:48
and Lawrence Taylor changed the way uh linebackers were viewed and and played
1:08:54
uh and became a prototype uh in his own right and you know Joe Montana is still
1:09:00
arguably in some people's conversations as the great as the goat you know I know
1:09:05
people want to put braid you know it's it's you hear now with Brady or in Montana's is the the debate so I mean
1:09:13
these guys were sort of the faces of 80s and early 90s uh football anything you
1:09:18
want to add on on the four cards I just kind of uh wax poetically on if you will
1:09:25
um yeah there's a lot there uh obviously I I think Scotty's pretty close to my age as well so those you know when we
1:09:31
first started watching football those were the the biggest of big names um and so you look back on you know uh
1:09:38
where are their rookie cards and things like that Joe Montana you know highlights in an 81 set that doesn't
1:09:45
have a lot of great rookies but he's got a great classic pose Joe cool you win four Super Bowls with three Super Bowl
1:09:51
MVPs people are gonna come looking for your rookie card and so much so that that card is is now iconic in that
1:09:57
regard LT probably the greatest Defender ever play um you know I I think the Prototype is
1:10:06
we look for angry linebackers now like uh if I was a scout or something like that I would just try to find out how
1:10:11
angry he was and then because that's you know I learned that from LT uh just an absolute dominant Force
1:10:18
I'm a big fan of of 82 tops but um you know he's he's one of the
1:10:23
Mainstays that's you know uh just partial to me and my collecting I like 82 but then 84
1:10:29
um tons of Hall of Fame rookies in 84. uh you know as we go on in the Years
1:10:34
we'll probably get more and more but uh big time set obviously centering issues like you said lots of different colors
1:10:40
and things chipping is also a big issue on the edges and stuff it's like the the
1:10:45
white borders are almost painted on so if you rub it against something they start shipping right off but
1:10:50
um yeah the guys of the 80s and They carried on to the 90s and you know you just weren't seeing playoff runs in big
1:10:56
games that didn't involve some of these names for sure
1:11:02
all right let's uh I I know uh Scott is going to want to talk about what's so
1:11:07
talk about the next card I I like this pick because it's the usfl card right the 84
1:11:14
Reggie White right first appearance uh on cardboard again another guy that kind
1:11:21
of changed uh the position and how it was viewed a very soft-spoken guy uh you
1:11:28
know person deep of faith and very again another guy too we lost uh way too too
1:11:35
soon um and this again uh that's an iconic card like if you're whether you're a
1:11:41
Packers and Eagles or just a Reggie White fan this card has to be in your
1:11:47
collection and uh it's not an easy there's I don't think you know I'll let you guys think I don't think there's a
1:11:52
ton like it's not ease necessarily easy uh to find and you know I think sometimes even defensive players when it
1:12:00
comes to the Hobby uh often are overlooked uh when you know obviously as
1:12:05
we've talked about uh tonight it's a quarterback driven league but ready why
1:12:10
I was really you know Lawrence Taylor and that's when I think people started to like hey these guys can impact the
1:12:17
game and kind of take over a game and change a whole offensive game plan themselves and Reggie White was one of
1:12:25
those guys and uh you know I wasn't necessary Packers I was obviously a steel fan but Reggie White was the guy
1:12:32
you root for because he was just a really good guy and uh a great player so
1:12:38
I I know you know Scott being a Packers fan and a Reggie White Guy I'm sure he
1:12:43
wants to say something to to this car yeah you know Reggie White is probably
1:12:50
my favorite player of all time I'd have to say and uh the 84 usfl sets just so
1:12:55
interesting you have like the red white and blue colors on it you know it was its own League at the time somehow Reggie White ended up there first and
1:13:02
not in the NFL which is kind of crazy to think about um but yeah it's uh you got the Memphis
1:13:08
showboats uh logo on that card and the card is very
1:13:13
tough in high grade I think there's only still six or seven PSA pens in existence so you can find the card in you know a
1:13:20
seven or eight grade pretty you know fairly easily but to get it in that high grade is really impossible
1:13:27
um because I believe they did come in like as complete sets so you had a lot of moving around of that card and uh
1:13:33
that has like this magenta background as well which uh and centering issues uh as
1:13:39
well on the back and front so it makes it a real tough card uh but just love the Reggie White story just a very
1:13:44
unique player and as you mentioned gone way too soon passed away in two 2004 so
1:13:49
yeah one of the best defensive players of all time though yep no no doubt and uh on a lot of
1:13:57
people's want list regardless of of what team they root for is just that kind of guy and that kind of uh player next one
1:14:05
this is another card that I'd be surprised if they'll get in uh you know
1:14:10
this time but uh you know we talk about goats right I'm gonna put it on the screen I actually own this card but I
1:14:16
don't I it's over there I'll just put the uh the photo uh Jerry Rice rookie
1:14:22
right uh there's people who don't even collect football cards that know this is
1:14:27
a Jerry Rice rookie uh that's to me sort of a a mark of an iconic card that
1:14:32
someone is not even a football collector knows what that is and you know it's
1:14:37
funny I I love this card because when you look you know he's a skinny guy
1:14:43
doesn't you know it's not a menacing looking guy but you know just a great
1:14:49
player from a small a small college and just the you know the record speaks for
1:14:56
itself you got he's got rings and he's got records that even in today's Passing
1:15:01
League you know he which would the receivers put up uh ungodly numbers in
1:15:07
today's game uh his record still won't be broken uh and that's that's a
1:15:13
testament to how great uh he really is because a lot of times you guys know this you know the league was different
1:15:19
back in the 50s 60s 70s even the 80s uh so it's hard to compare errors and you
1:15:25
know they obviously they threw the ball but they I think they throw it even more now and yet you know receivers are not
1:15:33
going to break uh his records is it's I always joke that it's it's Jerry Rice
1:15:38
and who's going to be the the best receiver after Jerry Rice because no one's ever gonna ever gonna catch him uh
1:15:44
1A is almost as good as one because you're just not going to get uh to one
1:15:49
not in the wide receiver spot uh you know it's still you know the thing thing that strikes me with this car too guys
1:15:55
is it's very affordable it's not like even in some higher grades it's not Out
1:16:02
Of Reach it's uh definitely budget friendly uh obviously due to you know
1:16:07
production it's not you know a short printed card or short printed uh set but
1:16:12
I've done enough uh you know rambling about uh rice but uh you guys want to
1:16:18
chime in uh on this iconic card this one's my guy right so yeah I won't
1:16:25
go too much too much into it but uh Niners guy um first game I ever remember seeing was
1:16:31
Super Bowl 23 he was the MVP 11 catches 215 yards in a touchdown
1:16:36
um I have the biggest PSA graded collection of Jerry Rice there is
1:16:43
um and yeah to your point all of those records and things like that his season stuff is
1:16:50
progressively getting broken here and there and someday we're going to find ourselves with 18 Game season so he may
1:16:55
not have too many things left for for season standpoints but um you know for being well then you got
1:17:02
to put it you gotta put an asterisk you know you know I agree but you know
1:17:09
if we say that then we have to put some asterisks uh you know yeah in arrears as well right and Don Hudson's going to
1:17:15
make some claims to some things there's some running backs and some quarterbacks some different eras that can say the
1:17:21
same things absolutely um but yeah his longevity is just ridiculous getting thousand yard seasons
1:17:28
into his 40s and stuff like that um you know getting another ring with the Raiders like people don't remember
1:17:34
those things but just uh fantastic fantastic career my favorite
1:17:40
player for sure and his tops number 161 there in from 86 great color it pops
1:17:46
real well and you is very affordable in sevens and eights for sure it gets a little crazier in the nines uh
1:17:52
thankfully I got mine you know way back when because you know yeah he was the first one I was really collecting but
1:17:59
um you know 86 pops out as far as the set goes we got a little Bland with the white borders coming after that and the
1:18:05
years follow but 86 really stood out and uh and he leads the way for that set
1:18:11
yeah no doubt uh two we'll go uh two cards here uh 38 39 running backs uh the
1:18:18
89 score Barry Sanders rookie uh in the 1990 score supplemental uh Emmett uh the
1:18:26
berry stands out I own I own these cards uh as well and again we talk about that
1:18:32
that Walter Payton right that close-up uh facial shot that when that when that
1:18:37
score Sanders first came out what did that bring me back to brought me back to that 76 Peyton and when at that time I
1:18:45
didn't know how great Barry was to to become uh and be in that discussion with
1:18:52
guys like Dr Payton which we do know now and again another iconic card just
1:18:57
because that extreme close-up uh again when we're talking about condition sensitive
1:19:03
that that green those green Edge those Corners chip uh and get white pretty
1:19:08
easy you look at them you look at them the wrong way you could probably Ding A a corner but uh just uh again iconic
1:19:15
cards uh that probably you know arguably the two best running backs uh in the 90s
1:19:21
uh it was a shame that Barry didn't have better Talent around them to to have
1:19:26
some postseason uh success like Emmett did um you know and everyone you know that
1:19:32
was the big then too right was who's the better running back and a lot of people sort of pointed to Emmett because of
1:19:39
rings but uh he you know Emmett has a couple guys named you know Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin that helped them uh
1:19:47
Barry Sanders didn't uh have that that luxury so to me they're both great players I always valued Barry Sanders as
1:19:55
as a better player not by much I'm not I'm not trying I just thought uh you know Emma had a
1:20:02
great offensive line Barry had a a good one at some years but uh both great
1:20:08
running backs you can't go wrong either way you can't go wrong with either of these cards uh as well two great cards
1:20:15
and obviously the Emmett is from a a factory uh uh supplemental set and again
1:20:21
black border card it's hard to find that card above an eight uh and if you do
1:20:27
it's it's going to cost you a few more dollars uh but uh go ahead guys uh China
1:20:33
enough on on these two cards yeah yeah John you know this is when I really started to watch football in the early
1:20:39
90s so I you know being a bit living in the Upper Midwest here I'm a it was a big fan of uh the Packers and we played
1:20:46
the Lions twice a year and I got to see Barry Sanders you know run around and slice and dice and then Emmett Smith too
1:20:53
in the early 90s really slice and dice the Packers teams up uh with his running ability so as you mentioned uh Barry
1:21:00
Sanders gone way too soon but not from life but you know from the game
1:21:06
um but both those cards have conditioned issues as you mentioned they're both colored borders and
1:21:11
um man very I just remember Barry Sanders being just so exciting to watch just electric I don't I'm not sure we've
1:21:17
ever seen anybody kind of quite like Barry Sanders he's he's very unique
1:21:23
yeah how many times right he's got three guys on him and the next thing you know
1:21:29
he's he's scampering and he's he's out of the you know he's out of the grass he's running down the middle of the
1:21:35
field or the sideline like how did he get out of that like that's a that's impossible you know so
1:21:42
but you get your 18. yeah I would just add for the the sets themselves 89 score
1:21:48
was uh was a big set as far as uh football finally branched out and we had more than one set issued for that year
1:21:56
um so 89 scores kind of like uh uh our first taste of something slightly higher
1:22:01
end if that if that makes sense there was a high print run for sure uh the 89 score barriers are equivalent to
1:22:07
baseball has the 89 Upper Deck Griffey it that's our you know it's been so
1:22:14
sold and bought and traded and things like that it's a commodity in itself as far as the hobby goes and that was kind
1:22:20
of always like your Baseline if various cards going up then you know other cards must be going up and things like that
1:22:25
I'm not a big fan of the pose itself but the Set uh and and you just you got to
1:22:31
have a very rookie if you're a football collector um yeah and then Emmett I got started on
1:22:36
1990 score so I'm a partial to that one as well but uh supplemental I
1:22:42
I don't know because I'm not quite that old I you know I started collecting then but I wouldn't have known enough about
1:22:47
the hobby but my assumption is is uh as Emmett's you know getting rings and
1:22:52
things like that in the 90s people started going looking for his uh his rookie and those supplemental sets were
1:22:58
probably pretty hard to find at the time uh once eBay came around and everybody could you know empty out their garage
1:23:04
and just sell those things one set at a time it's obviously a lot more prevalent now but I bet it was pretty hard to find
1:23:11
it uh when people were looking for it two three years after he came into the league yeah and and I'll pick you I'll
1:23:17
piggyback off that too Bart I have it's over there I have a supplemental set Factory sealed those are getting harder
1:23:24
to find because as we know with the grading uh space people are are cracking those open uh and trying to get that uh
1:23:32
gem mint 10 uh Emmett so this the sealed sets are getting uh are drying up a
1:23:38
little bit as people open them up so I'm I'm keeping that one see sealed and it's on my shelf I also have some em at
1:23:45
Singles uh as as well the only people that have a sealed one of those already have an Emmett graded right because
1:23:52
there's nothing else in that set yeah besides that car yeah everything else is just protecting that unless you like
1:23:58
unless you like Cortez Kennedy it was pushing Seattle but uh not on the list
1:24:03
not on the list so our next card 91 Stadium Club Brett Favre uh I remember
1:24:09
that that you know Stadium Club people were were ripping Stadium Club at a
1:24:15
fever pitch to get uh the Brett Favre they had to backtrack a little bit because he was sort of a as we all know
1:24:22
a late bloomer and after the trade uh to Green Bay from the from the Falcons uh
1:24:28
I'll I won't say much I'll let Scott kind of take over being the Packers guy
1:24:33
uh you know with with the far Stadium Club rookie yeah what makes this card kind of unique
1:24:39
is uh you know farb is spelled wrong on the card so an uncorrected error and uh
1:24:45
that kind of made it part of the chase two kind of being fun but his name was spelled wrong um and also it's uh again you're getting
1:24:52
into like a really high to high quality image glossy image with the Stadium Club
1:24:57
release here so um oh and obviously you know five uh Super
1:25:04
Bowl winner and multiple time MVP um I had to get an example of his rookie card on here as well this is the one
1:25:10
that we used um ironically it's 92 Stadium Club is very popular too because that's his
1:25:15
first uh card in the package uniform it actually sells for more than the 91 stadium with
1:25:21
his rookie um just kind of a fun Factor but the 91 is what made the list
1:25:27
yeah and that 92 memory certainly correct the high number card so a little shorter shorter uh printed
1:25:35
um next two cards guys is as we kind of get into the 40s here out of the 45 uh 41
1:25:42
and 42 both from the 1998 SP authentic uh release uh two great players
1:25:49
obviously uh Peyton Manning uh and Randy Moss rookies and the you know the
1:25:55
authentic uh set very clean looking uh and I always try to get uh rookie cards
1:26:03
from that set obviously uh High Dem you know High highly desirable not cheap uh
1:26:10
Peyton Manning having a great uh Hall of Fame career on it and he's having a Hall of Fame career uh post post field too
1:26:19
with uh with the commercials and doing uh you know the analysts work and you
1:26:24
know uh with Eli doing some of the Monday night uh alternative broadcasting
1:26:30
and just uh uh he'd be a Hall of Famer just on that alone forget what he did on
1:26:35
the field and he's a hard guy too whether you're whether you were a Colts or Broncos fan he's he's just a funny
1:26:42
dude and the easy guy to root for uh and uh and I could to me this is an iconic
1:26:49
car I don't own this card uh at this point but it's actually on my list hopefully someday uh check off uh that
1:26:57
that want list uh uh Edwin Manning but Randy Moss again most many will argue
1:27:02
after Jerry Rice uh the next greatest receiver uh others will argue other guys
1:27:08
but uh Randy Moss definitely in that conversation uh anything you wanna uh
1:27:15
chime in there on on those two cards uh yeah to your points obviously great
1:27:21
players uh and then I would say uh for the cards themselves SP authentic uh to
1:27:27
have a limited print run was was a new thing on the Block in that time frame and then
1:27:33
um we saw it in all sports but there was just a a large exploration of what you could do with cards in the in the 90s
1:27:40
especially in the later 90s there um all the different popular insert sets and things like that and uh in football
1:27:48
we did not for the years prior to that did not have uh the big name rookies to
1:27:54
carry those sets and then these guys showed up in 98 and they could carry any set with their popularity and SP
1:28:01
authentic was just the leader of that great looking cards and uh you know and again The Limited
1:28:07
print run uh creates that little Stir of demand while they're not uh too scarce
1:28:13
they're you're not going to easily find them and they'll cost you a couple bucks yep and you're not going to easily find
1:28:20
them in high grade they scratch they chipped and uh you know it's just it is
1:28:25
a great set overall they did have a there's a couple of other great players in that set Charles Woodson rookie card you can find in that set as well I'm on
1:28:32
Green Packers all-time living rushers and that set as well so uh those kind of help drive that set but the the Manning
1:28:39
and the Moss are definitely in the front of the line for that set they're just two great cards
1:28:44
yep moving on to number 43 this card is is Iconic especially recently with some
1:28:51
of the obviously auction uh Records uh it's been setting um it's uh the 2000 I'm gonna put it I
1:28:58
don't own this card unfortunately uh and it probably never will as as Moses will
1:29:03
probably uh say the same thing it's the 2000 uh playoff contenders uh autograph
1:29:10
rookie so not only are you getting a Tom Brady rookie you're getting the the signature uh as well and this is
1:29:18
obviously a super high demand desirable card uh it's in that upper echelon
1:29:24
that's you know that's where you you know you gotta uh really a
1:29:29
lot of disposable uh uh income but uh definitely a card worthy of of this list
1:29:36
and uh you know whether it gets in on on this ballot guys I mean I think that's it's going to be a shoe-in to get in uh
1:29:43
whether it's in in this voting uh year or or future one but uh you know again
1:29:49
another card that makes news outside the hobby right when it's on financial
1:29:55
networks is setting records and and you know it's become my wife who doesn't
1:30:00
know about cards has seen that card so uh that'll tell you sort of where that
1:30:06
card is as far as what pedestal uh it
1:30:11
sets on it won't be anything unless I win the the Powerball I'll never own it
1:30:16
and uh you know I iconic do you think I mean you know I know this is your baby
1:30:23
and your I mean you think this got a shot to get in I know it's newer compared to some of the other cars we've
1:30:29
we've spoken about tonight you think this has a shot to get in on the first ballot
1:30:37
um you know because the next card is also a Tom Brady card with it yeah so I
1:30:42
think there's a little bit of uh potentially splitting some boats there um I don't know if too many people will
1:30:47
vote for Tom Brady twice if they do then they're probably very heavily biased right compared to all those other cards
1:30:54
I don't see Tom Brady getting two of those votes but um definitely these cards are going to get in at some point
1:31:01
um if not you know if one of them doesn't get in the first class I I don't know if it quite makes that but I wouldn't be surprised if the next year
1:31:07
or something like that because they're both on there because you know um they just brought the hot the
1:31:14
football side of the hobby into another Stratosphere they these things were hitting dollar signs that we had just not seen before ever and uh you know it
1:31:23
brought football cards um into you know just pop culture if you
1:31:28
were a collector of things all of a sudden you were paying attention um to these is the main cards leading
1:31:35
that charge uh you know you The Limited print run of 2000 SPO authentic uh
1:31:40
always created that chase nice clean design and everything like that and then contenders
1:31:46
um you know the on card Auto really established a Chase for going on after
1:31:51
those things in contenders where you could get autographed hits on a regular basis for previous sets they were a lot
1:31:57
more rare and things like that and you had no idea but it was only a select group thing there was a lot more coming
1:32:02
out of contenders and things like that um and it was just kind of a new phenomenon that took us by you know
1:32:08
Autos weren't that big I would say in the 90s uh for NFL at least uh but this
1:32:14
one um LED that way a limited print run on the contenders but they just didn't
1:32:19
number them at that time but uh yeah and then Tom Brady's Tom Brady so he's going to carry a whole lot of stuff right with
1:32:25
the hobby of the card whatever yeah I would I would agree with all that
1:32:31
I'm sure Bart will be out campaigning hard for both of these cards to get in because I know he's such a big Tom Brady
1:32:36
fan all right last card I I know this is
1:32:42
gonna be right up uh Scott Sally he he mentioned it earlier uh last again this
1:32:48
is not in order it well it is an order by year but it's not in order how you guys necessarily feel about them uh but
1:32:55
you got the 2005 Topps Chrome uh Aaron Rodgers uh rookie again uh you know what
1:33:03
can't you say about Aaron Rodgers MVP he's got a ring a little bristly well
1:33:09
but uh you know that has that what difference does that make right I don't know too many people who wouldn't want
1:33:15
uh to own this card whether you like Aaron Rodgers or you don't like Aaron Rodgers you'll take the card and so
1:33:21
again another iconic card the guy's gonna be a first ballot uh Hall of Fame
1:33:27
quarterback for the NFL um so this card is definitely worthy of
1:33:33
the list I'll let uh this this is Scott's team and I'm almost uh Scott
1:33:38
likes and Roger so I'll let him uh I'll let him uh speak to this card
1:33:43
sure um you know again we're talking about Aaron Rodgers a four-time MVP of the league
1:33:49
um he's he does hold some all-time records as far as efficiency ratings go and touchdown to interception ratio and
1:33:55
um you know he holds a lot of those numbers currently so definitely will be a first ballot Hall of Famer and this
1:34:01
card's interesting uh because uh it's caps Chrome of course football was doing uh the tops was doing football at that
1:34:07
point and they did have some really great sets in the early mid-2000s uh football related all the way I think
1:34:14
last tops Chrome set was 2014 maybe or 2015 2015 yeah
1:34:20
um but yeah um this card's actually real tough to find in high grade um there's been a couple thousand of
1:34:25
them graded in only about 200 have gotten the grade of a 10 or 250 I think the numbers right around there so you
1:34:31
know scratching uh chipping just like any of those chrome cars centering too on some of them issues crazy bad on this
1:34:39
card um so for those reasons alone he's one of the more modern players we decided to put on list
1:34:46
yeah no doubt great 45 um you know it's hard to go wrong but
1:34:51
you know but uh you know it's gonna be tough you know if I had to predict a 10 I'm sure I
1:34:58
wouldn't get all uh 10 right I'm gonna obviously vote and see see how many of
1:35:03
the ten that I vote for actually uh make it in but uh great list guys kudos to to
1:35:11
to Ray for for bringing what he started with baseball to football uh kudos to
1:35:17
YouTube gentlemen for compiling and getting this list uh uh you really uh I
1:35:23
think you hit it on the head I'm sure 46 was was worthy too and and eventually
1:35:30
we'll probably see those cards uh as some of these cards get in I'll start to
1:35:35
move up and and get into next year's uh ballot it's gonna be interesting to see where the people vote and what 10 uh get
1:35:43
in here and the the first class and uh the safe bet is all 10 cards are gonna
1:35:49
be worthy for sure because we just talked about 45 that we we we can't
1:35:54
argue against so uh great job guys I'm going to get my vote in uh speaking of
1:36:00
that Ray or whoever else wants to you know for those who haven't voted yet uh how do you vote where do you go uh I'll
1:36:08
just say the Voting is gonna uh be closed the day before the Super Bowl I believe that's February 11th and then
1:36:15
you'll have your inaugural football card Hall of Fame class of 2023 uh but uh how
1:36:23
can people uh get their votes in
1:36:28
uh well they can go to the sports card Hall of Fame Network the link will be there or they can go to any one channels
1:36:35
uh because uh we're all going to have the videos up on each one of our channels so uh you can they can go to
1:36:42
sports car Network link for the Voting is there and all of our channels really
1:36:48
uh so yeah it's going to be easily accessible to get the vote
1:36:53
and one thing I'll say uh I'll put I'll put that stuff in the show notes of this
1:37:00
podcast so if you didn't catch it uh you just go refer to the show notes and uh
1:37:05
that'll get you where you need to go uh to get uh get your votes in cash your
1:37:10
votes and see how many of your selections uh uh make it uh make it in
1:37:16
uh guys again you know great job uh thank you for for sharing uh some time
1:37:23
uh with the show I want to give everybody uh you know you you all have your your own individual channels and
1:37:30
shows uh Bart we'll start with you plug to plug what you do and where people can
1:37:35
find you I got my Bart's cards on YouTube and IG um I clicked damn near everything
1:37:42
obviously I I have a lot of 49ers and Jerry Rice stuff as I mentioned but Hall of Famers across Sports and just iconic
1:37:49
cards and things like that so uh my eye is always wandering to the next thing but you can find me there and I'll have
1:37:55
all plenty of sports card Hall of Fame network uh voting and links and stuff uh plugged
1:38:01
for you to vote Scott go ahead I'll have you go next uh plug will plug what whatever you want
1:38:09
sure well my channel of course is Scotty tradition um I collect first and foremost a lot of Wisconsin teams so um
1:38:15
whether it be Packers or bucks or Brewers and that so basically all the sports um I am on the PSA set registry as well
1:38:22
so I work on the top 250 cards in the Hobby Set so that kind of gets me into lots of different sports and iconic
1:38:27
cards in all the sports which is a lot of fun um and also uh collect uh vintage Green Bay Packers all the way to current so
1:38:34
cool part about collecting the Packers is they started in 1919 so you know you can collect stuff from 100 years back if
1:38:40
you want to um and you know I do work on set Registries quite a bit so
1:38:46
um um just look for look for uh cards in Nice condition that I can collect
1:38:52
um so and if you want to check out my Channel Scanning tradition is where you need to be there you go
1:38:58
Ray I'll have you kind of close it out with your stuff and again if you want to
1:39:03
one last kind of direct people where to where to get their votes in
1:39:11
yeah well my channel is Ray from Philly all one word uh I collect a lot of baseball cards I'm
1:39:18
in the all the PSA set Registries myself the 300 great baseball cards a 20th
1:39:23
century by Mike Payne so postwar rookie Hall of Fame and uh this has been a lot of fun so
1:39:30
yeah I hope everyone checks out the voting and checks out these guys channels as well Bart's cars and scani
1:39:36
tradition and a big Kudos shout out to the other guys that are helping us for
1:39:42
Hall of Fame uh Mike this baseball card life and uh Victor the rookie card specialist the five of us are are
1:39:50
running the sports car Hall of Fame that works out you know look how soon there's going to be
1:39:56
content continually on that Network and hope you have fun with voting on this just it's gonna be a blast it's a nice
1:40:03
big success first year ballot yeah and close with this I know when I had
1:40:09
Ray on the show and we talked about the baseball card Hall of Fame uh you know I mentioned to him I'd like to see
1:40:17
even the national maybe do something have some of these cards I'll kind of
1:40:23
you know Embrace this maybe have a display uh with even if it's just that
1:40:29
Year's class these are this year's you know card Hall of Fame class and when
1:40:35
you know baseball now football uh there it would be a nice touch uh you know I I
1:40:41
think I'd like to see that and maybe you know at some point uh we we will so uh
1:40:48
you know great job uh by all involved not you know it's a lot of work right uh
1:40:53
look no one's did it before before you guys did it right there's probably a reason for that so it's it's not
1:41:00
necessarily an easy task right and so uh but here you are so I appreciate you
1:41:06
guys and I appreciate you making some time uh tonight to kind of uh talk about I'm gonna one last politic uh Ernie
1:41:14
Davis working in intro green next year and uh we'll do it again and you guys
1:41:19
you guys are welcome if you want to do this you know the the to to promote this
1:41:25
each year you know my door is obviously uh open as far as I'm concerned thanks
1:41:30
guys thank you John thank you thank you thanks John thanks guys
